,

I exercise every day. I do intense water exercises in my pool just

about every day.

I practice yoga and use every opportunity I can to include exercise.

If I'm standing

at the sink I'll incorporate exercise into it. Cleaning is done by

moving to music which

keeps my mind off of pain and helps me focus on the music instead. If

anyone was

watching me they'd think I'm nuts LOL!

Exercise for me, is better than any prescription any doctor has ever

written in my 25 year

history of having RA. Days when I get out of bed feeling rotten, I

get in the hot tub

and do gentle range of motion exercises and stretches. A bad start

will turn into a good

day by doing this. I wish everyone had access to water for therapy.

It has dramatically

cut down on the medication I take.

It is common for people with RA to stop exercising because of pain. I

didn't exercise as much as

I should have for many years but am now in a good routine. For me,

not exercising

causes more pain and stiffness. It hurts when I first start, but

after a few minutes of gentle exercise,

the pain decreases. When I first started swimming in my pool, I

couldn't make it across ONCE and

now I can do 10 laps. I encourage everyone to find a way to exercise

in some way that works

for their situation.

, Exercise has helped me a lot over the last few months. Prior to the

first of the year I was barely moving and doing very little of anything. Just

walking up the steps was difficult. I cut back on the mtx which was making me

overly exhausted and added enbrel the first of Feb. and then joined Curves at

the end of the month. I was feeling somewhat better and knew I needed to

exercise and didn't have a pool convenient. Curves machines are all hydralic

which has a similar impact on the joints as water exercise and you can progress

at the speed and intensity you need. Some days I hit it harder and do more than

others. We just got back off of vacation and my husband and family could not

believe how much better I was doing. I walked several miles each day and even

climbed to the top of St. 's Cathedral in London (589 steps). I was slow

but I made it-even shocked myself. I am much stronger and most days feel much

better than I have in several years. I know

that part of the credit goes to Enbrel because before I started taking it I

hurt too bad to exercise but exercise has made a big difference too. G.

Thanks All for you input;

I hate swimming, the getting wet part, in winter but now that summer is

finally here, I will definitely do it as well as going for those long bike rides

along the lake. I am a couch popato all winter, it is time to get back in the

swing of things.
