Guest guest
Hi : Welcome to the group! This is a wonderful place for information and support, and I am sure you will get a lot out of being here. I have RA and Fibro too, the RA first 8 years ago, followed by the fibro which was only dx 2 years ago. I am on medications for both. I take Enbrel, Mobic, Methotrexate for the RA; Lyrica, Skelaxin, and Zanaflex for the Fibro; Effexor XR for anti-depressant; Ambien CR and Zanaflex for sleep; and Ultram for pain. I also take meds for high blood pressure and asthma. What medications are you on? I am sure you will learn a lot just by reading the posts, I sure have, and this place is also somewhere to come where the people truly understand what you are going through, and that also helps me to cope day to day. Looking forward to hearing more about you - Take care - Kathe in CA --- sky4lizard <sky4lizard@...> wrote: > > Hi, > > I am called and been diagnosed with RA and > Fibro, not at the same > time. Guest guest
Hi Kathe, Thank you for the warm welcome. I take relatively few RX since I seem to react to them. I also have few other problems and they seem to flare up independantly or at the same time. Right now I seem to be going through multiple thingy. I don't take anything for RA specifically since it hasn't seriously flared up till now. I take, sheesh might not remember all of this stuff... Ambien CR for sleep, Cymbalta for Fibro, other stuff for other promblems and Vicodin for pain. I take Medrol dose pack (last few years) when RA flares up real bad, but we are(my doc & I) trying to stay away from it. Taken a lot of prednisone in my lifetime and tried lots of medications. I am also in physical therapy and get trigger point injections of lidocaine. Not having a good day today, nice talking to you, Kathe. Talk to you soon. > > > > > Hi, > > > > I am called and been diagnosed with RA and > > Fibro, not at the same > > time. Guest guest
Hi Jan, I was told that Enbrel works wonders, I get too many respiratory infections to take it. Does it work well for you? My other major problem right now, which is out of control is hypothyrodisim. I am wondering if there is a connection between it and RA. Could RA trigger it? I don't know much about it, yet and would like to find why the darn thing fluctuates so much and if it has something to do with RA. Maybe Fibro? Immune system? I've always tested negative for Lupus. Is there such a thing as seronegative Lupus? That's what my RA is, I don't have RA factor in my blood. I am sorry, been sick and have RA flare up on top of this and a virus and Fibro flare up and you are the " lucky " one that I dumped on. Thank you, I feel better. in FL > > > > --- In , " sky4lizard " <sky4lizard@> wrote: > > > > > > Hi, > > > > I am called and been diagnosed with RA and Fibro, not at the same > > time. Guest guest
Hi Helena,.......Congratulations on your baby, girl or boy? I've heard during pregnancy the RA is sort of in remission, and then it comes back with a vengenance. You really do need to see a rheumy, and get on something. You need to stop the progression of the disease, before it gets really bad. I take methotrexate, and I take pain meds. I have a very bad time, but I just sort of live with it now. My life has changed so much in the last couple of years. I know it's SO hard for you to chase the baby. You need some help, and the best thing is the meds. You take care, and glad your here, Tawny
Guest guest
Nina: Where are you located? I live in KY and when my Cobra ran out, we couldn't get a private policy but were referred to Kentucky Access which is a state funded insurance policy (yes we pay for it) for people who have been denied elsewhere. It is more expensive than the cobra we had, but costs about the same as a private policy through BC/BS, Humana, or whoever else is out there. It is a good policy too. PPO, $10.00 copays and $15.00 prescriptions. I think our deductible for Bill and I was $1000.00 and a max OOP of $3000.00. Plan pays 80/20 after the deductible is met until you reach your OOP, then it pays 100%. See if your state has something like that. KY Access is administered by Anthem. na _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Nina Sent: Monday, May 14, 2007 3:17 PM Subject: Re: [ ] new groupie Rose Paterson wrote: > > >It helps me somewhat - I am uninsured but hoping to get insurance > soon so I can start getting medical treatment. I am to the place I > have to - I cannot continue to live in such pain. > If you find insurance other than employee group insurance (since you have a pre-existing condition), please let me know what company it is. We are paying $692.37 a month to keep my husband's last employee insurance through COBRA. It's a real struggle each month to come up with the money for it. They only have to cover him for 18 months after it becomes COBRA and they have to cover me for 36 since I'm on Medicare. After that, unless he comes up with a job that has medical coverage, I don't know what we'll do. Even with employee insurance, if you haven't had insurance for the preceding six months, they won't accept pre-existing conditions for two years. I haven't found any individual insurance that will take either of us ... me because of the RA, PBC, Sjogren's, etc. and my hubby because of a quadruple bypass surgery three years ago. In Texas, because I'm under 65 I can't get Medicare supplement insurance. Nina
Guest guest
Helena, welcome. I'm and on-again, off-again group member here. I'm back on right now because of my symptoms reemerging after having a baby almost 11 weeks ago. I'm breastfeeding and having to consider weaning because of the need for drugs that might contaminate my milk. I dread the end of breastfeeding partly because I fear the symptoms will come back even worse. Someone wrote me recently (I think it was Heidi) and said that breastfeeding really helped manage the RA. But especially now that you have already stopped b'feeding, PLEASE try to overcome your fear of doctors and get to a specialist!!! There is a TV commercial here in the U.S. that shows a woman with RA walking her baby in a stroller down the sidewalk - it shows the difference in her life as a mother a few years in the future without treatment and then with treatment. The commercial states that the damage can be occuring with or without symptoms sometimes. It was a real wake-up call for me. I want to be able to raise my new baby actively! I realize it was a drug ad, but still, the facts are that this is one of those conditions that modern medicine is really needed for. Natural remedies might help with your symptoms, but they won't prevent the permanent, irreversible damange to your joints that RA causes. I wish you the very best and am so sorry you are struggling. I know money is probably a big issue for you, as it is for most of us, but maybe a local social worker can help? Most hospitals have social workers on staff that are willing to at least point in you the right direction, even if you're not a patient there. wendy > > Hello my name is helena and i have had rheumatoid arthritis for the > past 20 years. i've had a baby in the last 14 mnths (a prem born at 25 > weeks) and for the whole 9 mnths i was breast feeding I kept 20 kilos > off and was relatively pain free. as soon as my breatmilk dried up my > symptoms have gradually got worse over the last 5 mnths.
