Those Who Have Had Joint Replacement Surgery

Hi.

I haven't posted in a while. Still getting all my meds sorted out since being

diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis back in December. I also have

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sjogren's Syndrome. My Rheumy has put me

back on the MTX injectible, Plaquenil and Prednisone. So far, no luck. I

know it will take a while for it to start showing signs of improvement.

For those of you who have had joint replacement surgeries, were there

indications during a flare as to what joint was going to need replacing? I

notice that when I flare, my right knee is terrible (can't put any weight on it

at times or it gives right out), and my left shoulder locks up frequently, and

even when not in a flare I have trouble lifting my arm because of the

limited motion due to pain.

I don't go back to the Rheumy until May, but should I be talking with my

GP and getting xrays or bone scans done of these areas that are causing

me grief? How will you know when you are in need of a joint replacement?

Not that I want a replacement surgery, but I just wanted to know if there

were any indicators to watch for that would lead up to me needing

surgery. I want to take the best care of my joints that are extra tender so

that I can keep them as long as possible.

Any information would be appreciated...
