Guest guest
Hi everyone! Looking for some practical and pragmatic advice on helping my son navigate the treacherous waters of adolescence and his attraction to the opposite sex! will be 12 in a couple weeks (DS-ASD) and I have noticed, over the last couple of months, that HE has noticed that there is something very interesting and almost magnetic about same age girls that pulls him in. He follows them around and wants to very much interact with them. He reaches out to touch them on the arm or shoulder to get their attention, and even with his speech being very difficult to understand, he tries to " start-up " a coversation with them. I hate to put it this way, but I think he may be a " hound-dog " LOL, (must get it from his father), because he goes from girl to girl seeing who's going to give him the time of day! However, he seems to be having a bit of a problem with the whole " personal space " thing. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with the " close-talkers " !!! He likes to stand right next them, as close as he can get without touching! It's almost funny to watch him maneuver himself into position. What I'm looking for is some strategies and ideas to help him understand how to talk to girls, while being respectful of the their personal space, and also how to NOT dog them and NOT be a stalker. I want to help him understand what is appropriate and how to handle it when a girl is not interested in being his friend. Or anyone else for that matter. Although he is so sweet and good-natured, how DARE any girl not want to be his friend!lol Any suggestions, tips and tricks and experiences you all can offer would be greatly appreciated! I'm sure I'll have to try many different approaches until I find the one that " clicks " for him. Thanks in PA
