Guest guest
We use parts of it. My 15 year old has always been very energetic. Typical ADHD stimulants made him much worse. Because both of his birth parents struggled with depression I often wondered if his busyness was his way of compensating for being depressed - though he has always been a very happy kid. But I thought maybe his spirit was happy but his body chemistry was weighing him down. Anyway, this is the rationale I used for starting the Prozac this is part of the protocol. It worked wonders for him. He was already a high functioning kid so I have no idea if it helped his memory but it certainly has made him amenable to learning. Before starting the Prozac with both boys (I also have a 13 year old) we started the Gingko Biloba with the thirteen year old. Within two days his speech really took off. After the two days on him being on Gingko I came up with the rationale for starting Prozac stated above. On the very rare occasions when we have either forgotten a dosage or run out it seems like those are days when the boys, especially the 13 year old have been very spacey. Tony (the 13 year old) once went 4 days without the Gingko and I ran to the store that night to get the Gingko because I couldn't take him without it any more.Other families in our area have had far more dramatic results. We have never even considered the ADHD medication that is part of the protocol. I might if we were working with a good doctor but since it is just our pediatrician that prescribed the Prozac I haven't pursued it.Our kids are all different. I think I talk about Isaac's possible depression (the 15 year olds) to help me explain why this might have worked so well for us but maybe not everyone. Tony was also adopted and clearly still struggles with attachment issues thus the same explanation might work for him.My boys are still at the minimum of the Prozac dosage. Twice when Isaac was going through a rough time we raised the dosage to the next level but it didn't work. I think Theresa's son Cody (the person who started all of this) has a high Prozac dosage and that appears to be what he needs.Check out the Stanford University website as they are testing the theories of the Changing Minds Protocol and last I look (about 8 months ago) thought things looked promising.Lori Has anyone used the Changing Minds Protocol? When reading the website it seems a little unrealistic...My daughter is coming off abilify and am thinking of starting the protocol in Feb.
