Hi Everyone,

My Son Asher is 6 DS/ASD and will not keep socks or slippers on his feet. It is

a little chilly in the house and his feet are cold. Does anyone have any

suggestions or do I just need to buy him some indoor only shoes to wear all the

time (he doesn't like shoes either they are just harder for him to get off)?

Darwyn (age 7 DS ASD) is the same! He won't wear socks or slippers inside. We

have bought him exactly the same pair of blue lace-up New Balance runners for

about 4 years and he tolerates them (although for a year he would always try to

take them off). But now he seems to accept them as an option for what his feet

should look like. He wears them all year long no matter the weather and then

goes barefoot in summer. If we try something different he takes them off (the

great sandal attempt of 2010 was a failure), but if they look exactly the same

he's okay (although whenever he's in a stroller he still manages to pull them

off and throw them). He also just goes barefoot in the house and doesn't seem to

mind cold feet.

Good luck, and let me know if you find something that works.

Hi Amy,

For our son , now 49, he will not wear socks with his

shoes/boots anytime and won’t wear slippers or slipper socks and goes

barefoot in the house. His dress of choice in the house is walking shorts

and a tank top no matter what the weather. I am able to get him to wear

socks for a short time in the AM after applying lotion to his dry feet & PM

he wears the socks to bed. lives in a group home and they have tried

to get him to wear socks off and on but he won’t, he won’t even

wear socks after his lotion is applied there. He will wear socks if he

goes bowling with the bowling shoes or when he tries on shoes in a store. This

week at his annual staffing they said sometimes lately he has been wearing

shoes around the house. When he came home this weekend for a visit he had

his snow boots on with his walking shorts and tank top the first day walking

around the house LOL. Otherwise we let it be his choice. With the

young children you may find a solution to get them to wear socks. Guess I

consider it one of my least concerns in life.

Oh, Tori NEVER keeps anything on her feet in the house and it took us years to get her to keep anything on them outside.  She would let us put socks and shoes on to go out (after a fight) but as soon as she got in the car/bus whatever.   As soon as she gets in the house, before she even takes her coat off, the socks & shoes are off.
