Guest guest
(Mahalo! You are too funny!), All---Warrior mom is sick with a sinus infection! I do not like VOG! Volcanic ash smog-like air in Hawai'i that envelops our islands and makes us all sick! Not feeling like picking a 'fight' today...but in the days to come, will have my own advocacy issues. Here's our latest challenge...Aubrey, (14 in May, DS-PDDNOS, Hearing Impaired) is transitioning to high school next year...I just found out yesterday that there's only TWO high schools with hearing impaired programs on our island or in the state that are even remotely appropriate for her to transition to... Aubrey has been in FSC with total communication (Sign, Say, Proloquo2Go) with teacher, aide, and interpreter that all sign (has 1:1 support all day) with pull-outs for PE, Band, Science, Social Studies etc...socialization programs with 1:1 support after school-hula, hip hop, and after school study hall/social time with WII, one afternoon of community based instruction etc...1) http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/127487358.html?id=127487358 (Enrollment 70, well used to be at least 70)(20 miles away)2) http://www.pearlcityhs.org/ (Enrollment 1800)(7 miles away)Aubrey's current teacher (first year teaching but enthusiastic) is advocating for Aub to go to #1 because her Mother works there and she says they have a good transition to adulthood program. All of her current SPED and typical peer friends are going to #2...It is Aub's Dad's alma mater. Although a small school would be nice vs that HUGE school they're all funneling into...all the fighting for inclusion over the years will have been for naught...Curious as to which some of you would choose to advocate for and why? OMG! UGH!!!Desi From: Medley To: Desi McKenzie Sent: Wednesday, February 1, 2012 11:50 AM Subject: Re: Chorus Can I just tell you that I love your fire! It makes me smile when I think of what happens to the fool who chooses to pick a fight with a true warrior mom (you). HugsSent from my iPod As a voice teacher and Mom of a child with DS-PDDNOS and hearing impairment (which is the main reason why Aubrey has little hope of singing well, thus we sign) that works with children/teens with disabilities-I would love to be on the speaker phone hearing that explanation in your IEP meeting and refuting it!Here is a you tube link of my good friend's daughter with Ds- SINGING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNwunHqNCNkNEVER underestimate the combination of a dedicated teacher and dedicated student!!!!!!!If this continues I'm going to teach kids with disabilities by SKYPE if that's what it takes!!!!!!!!!!!UGH!!!!!!!!!!Desi To: Sent: Wednesday, February 1, 2012 9:23 AM Subject: Chorus And here we go......I have a great relationship with my daughters teacher. Today she called me to let me know that the chorus teacher told her today in other words jenny wouldn't do good in chorus...this gets my blood boiling as you can imagine. Her iep meeting is wed and I just called and requested the chorus teacher to be present. After I hear her pittyful explination as to why she feels jenny wouldn't do good I am going to whip out my tablet go to youtube and play annies tomorrow. As I expect jenny is gonna jump up and belt out the whole song! Uggggghhh Betsy mom to jenny
