It is VERY possible for a child to have joint pain and/or arthritis, especially if there is a maformation in the joint. What seems weird to me though is that she didn't gradually stop walking as the pain got worse. If I remember correctly she just stopped, right? Definitely get that second opinion. Is it possible for a 10 year old to have joint pain or arthritis? My daughters Ortho still does not know why she has refused to walk for two weeks now. She's had all X-rays done and a CBC….all with normal results. The only answer he could come up with is joint pain and told us to give Haylee Naproxen twice a day. We are getting a second opinion in Birmingham, AL. She does have a leg length discrepancy and the left femur ball is formed abnormally. We just can't figure out why she has stopped walking?????? This Ortho doc we said he didn't want to do any invasive test like an MRI or Bone Scan since she does not show any signs of illness……who knows…..--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Checkout our homepage for information, bookmarks, and photos of

Please get another opinion, preferably from someone familiar with these issues in our kids.

My daughter has had 2 hip surgeries to correct the structural abnormalities. The ball of the femur can be flat in the back, where it is not easy to see on a typical X-ray. You need more difinitive testing to find out for sure. We have had MRI and CT scans, and an exploratory testing, under anesthesia to see how stretched out the ligaments really are, and when the dislocations occur. If the ligaments are stretched out, when bending, and eventually, when just walking, the joint can dislocate.

My daughter just dropped to the ground and refused to walk. No one knew why. She was being treated for " behavior " problems, when she was in pain from the dislocations, and could not tell us. She just " zoned out " . It took us years, (very painful ones) before it was finally figured out. Her knees are the same. Now, we notice her dislocating her finger joints when holding a pencil.

You don't always need surgery. Sometimes, bracing can help, along with physical therapy.

I hope this helps.
