Hi , I have the same question. My son is 10. I didn't expect it until around 12. How did the pediatrician confirm that he started puberty? Thanks Sent from my Palm Pre on the Now Network from Sprint

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with early onset of puberty. Aden has started puberty, I took him to the peditrician today who confirmed my suspisions. Aden is only 8 and I'm concerned that this is too early. We are following up with the endo next Monday, and I'm wondering if anyone has dealt with this and has any suggestions of questions I should ask or issues that should be addressed.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Our son did too they did a testerone test on him when he was 10 and it showed he was in full blown puberty.  That Dr. said that kids with autism actually tend to go into puberty early???  Go figure? I'm dealing with the same thing over here too….my daughter is 10 and is going through Puberty as well and I hate it! She actually started about a year ago, but now it seems like she is a grown little woman. It doesn't seem right. She has little pimples all over her face and little boobies, and I don't even want to go you know where…………..I have no suggestions sorry :(

Elie began puberty at age 8.  By age 10, he was 'man' enough to cause his female teachers concern!!  our endo said that he was 'normal' in this respect.

Thanks for all the answers, at least I know I'm not alone. The ped did a physical exam. Aden has development typical of puberty, hair developed testees etc. The part that really concerns me is he is getting SO strong. It's like he's on natural steroids. It scares me to thinks what happens when I can't handle his physical strength anymore. ThanksSent from my iPod

Our daughter was a little woman at 10, with all the " teenage-itis " that goes with it! She is small in size, so we can handle her physically.

Because we have found a communication system that works for us when our daughter cannot speak, we are able to avoid the most violent outbursts. We are very fortunate. Being able to communicate, and reduce the fear and stress has been our key to managing the outbursts so far.

But, I have a close friend who has an autistic son, who is over 200 pounds at age 14, and his communication skills are minimal. He is so strong, it scares the whole family when he has these outbursts. He punches holes in walls, and breaks things often. She needs help to manage his outbursts. He has injured her during these outbursts. I suggest that you work on getting at-home assistance as soon as you can. I wish I could say it gets easier, but it doesn't always. My friend's son has to be medicated to help control the outbursts.

I hear it gets easier around age 20, when the hormones settle down to " normal " , but I'm not there yet, so I don't know for sure.

Thanks for all the answers, at least I know I'm not alone.

They use a scale called the TURNER SCALE.  Here is a link to explain:  http://www.childhealth-explanation.com/puberty.htmlStrength is only one reason to work very hard on understanding behavior and learning to re-direct, manipulate, change direction of behavior.

Strange. My son is 12 and has no signs of puberty yet; no body hair except a bit on arms, no genital growth, and he's barely growing, at 4 foot tall and 47 pounds. I was starting to wonder about puberty and if he's late.BethTo: " " < >Sent: Mon,

One of the things with our kids is that more of them are at the extremes of what ever is normal - IMO>  I have yet to see a study which shows that, but from this list one sees all extremes with little in the middle!

I would say with any parent of one of our children - late puberty - THanks Goodness!!!  Gives you more time to get a handle on what it will be like to deal with an adolescent body and a toddler mind!! .  Again my opinion.

We taught that this is private - in your room behavior.  Otherwise we leave it alone.  Everyone has to have some sexual release.

I agree, we just taught nathan public vs private, asked him if he needed to go to bathroom and if he didnt, then directed him to his bedroom stating that was private and to be done in his bedroom. Try not to make a big deal out of it, remember attention is attention wheather for good or bad. And, dont worry it passes, nathan is 20yrs and I do remeber going throught that constant groping of himself, but dont remember when he last done this its been so long now. shawna

We taught Aden that if he wants to stim he needs to go to his room and close the door. When he started his "new stim" he did so in his room with the door closed. It was actually one of the easier things to teach him.

The communication is my top concern right now. I feel like we are at a crossroads right

now with which direction to go in.

My Jo is almost 10 and I am seeing signs of puberty and she is

still using single words to communicate and her enunciation is still so poor

half the time I do not make out the word unless it is one of her top 20. So…I have thought about some of

this technology but she is a thrower and I fear she would kill any hard drive

that was not nailed down. What are

your thoughts on requirements of behavior on some of this stuff and how did you

get it across to your little (or not so little anymore) ones? We are meeting with the TEACCH

specialists next month (finally) for our 6 sessions so I am hopeful they will shed

some light on the direction as well. Thank you ~Melody Poli
