Hi Dawn

When my little guy had t & a we did a new set of tubes at the same time. If you

have any problems with ears you might want to ask about that. One anesthetic to

do it all.

Aden went 8 days without eating or drinking after surgery. Our ENT still has

flashbacks five years later ;). Most kids, even kids with DS & ASD usually do much

better than Aden did, but it can be tough getting them started on eating and

drinking again if there are oral sensory issues.

If I had it to do over again I would ask that they not remove his I V after

surgery so that all of his pain meds could be I V. Trying to get him to swallow

pain meds was a joke and so his pain was really bad before we got the new I V

put in. Pain meds via I V are just plain easier.

Also with every surgery I insist on being there as he is going under and before

he wakes up. It keeps him much calmer which makes for an easier time both

before and after surgery.

Hope this helps

I'm not the one that asked about it but I so appreciate your feedback on this subject. My little Ebonie is going to have T & A, adnoids, and tubes in the ears. They said it could easily be 8 days in the hospital or longer as she probably won't eat or drink.

Did they do a sleep study before the surgery. For some reason they say they have to do a sleep study on all kids with DS,ASD before the surgery. Not sure why because there would be no treatment for her if she does have sleep apnea. Not a way in this world she would tolerate a CPAP machine. However, my doc says to be nice and go along with it, so that is what I am going to do. Guess you gotta pick the battles.

Hi, my daughter got a dx from a Pediatric Neuropsychiatrist/psychologist (I can't remember which one) and then my Pediatrician got on board after receiving her notes. We've also had the T & A surgery a few yrs back, and Ill be honest, it was very hard on all of us. My daughter was in pain, so she would cry and that would make the pain worse, which she didn't understand. She didn't want anything in her mouth, so it was hard getting her to eat. It just takes time, but the surgery was so worth it!!! The only thing i can suggest is to try to keep your son happy and give him whatever he wants. We let Haylee watch videos 24/7 in bed bc it was the only thing that seemed to keep her calm. Also, be sure to get a rx for Tylenol w/Codene!

Hi all, I'm new to the group. My son, Tristan is almost 4 years old and has Down syndrome...and we suspect ASD as well. He stims non-stop, is echolalic, has sensory issues.

One question I have is do you think it is helpful to see a neurologist and get an official diagnosis? Would this help him to get more services? Currently, he qualifies for (but will start after surgery) 2 hours OT, 2 hours PT, 2 hours ST, 10 hours ABA. Additionally, he already attends an SDC preschool class 11 hours/week.

Second question is he is supposed to have T & A surgery this coming Tuesday. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions as I'm extremely nervous about this surgery. Did anyone see regression after a surgery?

Any thoughts are appreciated!Blessings,

Dawn
