Guest guest
Hi, Everyone....Today, Mom AND Dad learned about subQ Ig infusions. The nurse taught us all about the prepping, getting the infusion into the tube/pump, and then, inserting the needles. She did the first, Dad did the second one, and I stood there, looked at the needle and said *I can't do this* !!! She took the needle (about 1/2 inch long and very fine) and inserted it and said *No problem....next week.* She wants Gareth to learn this!!! It took about 1 1/2 hr for the pump to finish 50 cc's of fluid/med. She said the thigh and love handles can also be used if the abdomen doesn't work. He had no drop in BP, like last week, and other no side affects. So..........on to next week. Maybe, Mom will be a little braver!!! Gareth did say that it didn't hurt. Take care, Everyone. Guest guest
That's great that Gareth isn't having problems with the infusion. It can be a little tricky at first. One thing that my mom learned when she was doing it is that the longer the dose takes the better. Something about how the body reacts to a slow infusion vs a faster one. So it's good that they aren't trying to rush. Maybe you'll have better luck next week, I don't envy you. (I hate needles of any size).
