Guest guest
What an incredible piece of research! It may be about Britian but it really applies here as well. I absolutely love the conclusion "However, we also found that where disabled children/young people and their families are supported within their communities, they are full of potential and are able to assert their positive identities. Disabled children/young people, their parents/carers and professionals tell us that every child does matter and that it is the responsibility of us all to ensure that they continue to do so."What an inspiring thought. Guest guest
I appreciate that you have forwarded this stuydy. Unlike you , I found much encouragement from this report.  IE: Even in the UK there is recognition of the needs of families, communities and people with disabilities to work together for the good of all. This is not a US thing only. That in the UK, short time (what we know as respite) is vital as it is here. That people are people - no matter what - recognized as a value for all of us. The arts are not just for the able, but as important for the differently abled. And that not as a 'nice thing' to allow people with disabilities to do, but necessary as breathing to express feeling and thoughts not able ot be expressed any other way./ That communication is vital for all persons. People who lose a child still need support after the child has gone. Recognition for needs help lead to solutions!!!  http://post-blair.posterous.com/pages/end-of-project-report This made me very, very sad.
