Guest guest
Hello - We had tried the Andy Cutler method of chelation for our son (who is now 5 years old) from mid-July of last year until the beginning of December (at which time we took him off to try some homeopathy treatments not related to chelation). Anyway, our homeopath and DAN! practitioner had suggested that we *not* continue with chelation due to his ALS and ALT levels (liver health indicators) going *up* in his most recent blood labs. Apparently, chelation can be tough on the liver. But in the meantime, with another web group, I received this interesting commentary regarding AC chelation for our NT 3-year-old daughter who has "mercury deranged mineral transport" (results of hair test): "The reason I would personally not consider AC style chelation in yourdaughter is b/c up-regulations in the CBS enzyme are common and in peoplewho have them, sulfur compounds (like DMSA and straight glutathione andother things) can up-regulate the enzyme further, leading to increasedlevels of ammonia and other non-ideal metabolites. Dr. Amy Yasko, whosework I follow on this subject, argues that in a person with a simplemutation in that pathway there might be a tenfold upregulation. However ina person with Down Syndrome, the upregulation is more like 150% (which is,she argues, part of why high ammonia levels are apparently so common inpeople with DS). Because you have one child with DS (which impacts the CBSpathway), it is highly possible that your family carries predispositions tochanges in that pathway. If you would like to read what Dr. Amy writesabout that you can find it here (but need to create a login to access herforum).http://www.ch3nutrigenomics.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20841 & highlight=syndrome+cbs So far, I've learned of Pectasol as an alternative form of chelation, but for both children, the cost of the pectasol (at $100 per bottle) plus companion product, would be $270/month, which is out of our price range. I've also heard of Carcinosin or "Carc 30" which is a homeopathic chelation remedy. But I'm curious if anyone else has found a good alternate chelator to DMSA, ALA or DMPS? Our son's ammonia levels are typically high anyway (from the NutrEval labs we have done once per year). Many thanks, Kathy (mom to , 5 years old with DS/ASD and Genna, 3 years old, "NT")
