Hi there! Thanks for asking!I'm in San Clemente (south Orange County in CA).

I have a 14 y/o son (different dad) who is smart, handsome, responsible, and I have always suspected very high functioning aspergers (sensory issues-mild now and mild social issues too).

I have a daughter, Kira, who will be one year old on 3/18. She is my beauty queen and already has some sensory issues so me, Tristan, and Kira are all going GFCFSF now!

Tristan will be 4 years old on 3/18. He's our love bug. Diagnosed DS at birth. Has had 5 surgeries so far - PDA repair, diaphragmatic hernia repair, and 3 sets of ear tubes. He was supposed to have T & A surgery today but we postponed and are getting a sleep study instead.

He hasn't been officially diagnosed ASD - but he stims (All day!!) and has sensory issues, and can be echolalic. It's hard to know what is attributed to the DS and what could be ASD.

Thanks for having me here! Excited to learn from you all :-)

Hi, Everyone....Beth & Dawn....welcome to the group.    Tell us more about Jackie, Tristen and yourselves.  Where do you live....someone may be close by.   My son is Gareth, 23 y/o DS/ASD/OCD.  He's out of school now and works 3 days in a workshop.

<<We are currently trying to increase doses of ritalin for his ADHD to see if it helps.>>

.....please, be careful with stimulants.  Many of us have found that stimulants make behaviors worse.

Take care, Everyone.

Margaret

Hi it's Beth again.

We live in Monroeville PA, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh. Jackie is non-verbal and uses a PECS book, and we are working on switching her to the IPad.

She was diagnosed with autistic disorder at age 4 and we began ABA therapy at that time.

She is now in 5th grade.

She attended a public school from K-4th grade and was in an "autistic support" classroom, but this year we moved her to a private Catholic school which has a contained special-needs classroom within a K-8 Catholic school. She is not getting ABA at school anymore (we are doing much more ABA at home now) but the school is working on other things, like inclusive activities, commication with peers, and mainly self-help skills. It was scary moving her but I'm glad we did it because she needed a change and is doing well at the new school.

Thanks again to everyone in this group and especially to the moderator.

I am really glad I found you because I, too, feel the 'lonliness' of having a child with the dual diagnosis.

Best wishes to all!
