Guest guest
Hi Melody,You may want to consider having your school district conduct an augmentative communication device eval. for your son or daughter so that a speech therapist who is familiar with all of the communication devices can present them to your child to determine interest, fine motor skills, ability etc. In our case, our district hired a ST who specializes in this from an outside agency. I was there during the eval. and the ST presented at least a dozen types of different devices, from GoTalk, to I-Pad, etc. for my son to try. I received a written report a few weeks after the meeting that gave all the details of the eval, plus the ST recommendation for the device that she thought would be most appropriate for our son.Best of luck,Mom to , 8.5 yrs. old DS/PDD-NOSNorthern New JerseyTo: From: jpoli8@...Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2012 00:18:00 +0000Subject: Communication Device Question Hi Ladies, I asked this before but I think it got buried. What do you do if your child needs a communication device but is known to throw things when he/she is upset, bored, or just feeling cranky? Would that disqualify your child or do you just have to hold the device for them most of the time? Not sure how that would work, we are currently using PECS but it is so limited compared to what I am hearing an Ipad could do with some of these apps. Thank you, ~Melody
