Guest guest
<<We are in the process of getting Blake neuro-psychological testing to get more info. re: his behaviors - he is highly echolalic, has poor eye contact, spins, flaps, has rages at times, has a history of self-injurious behavior, has repetitive movements, learned to read at the age of 3, has an incredible memory and is quite bright considering his DS diagnosis.>> Hi, Everyone... ...welcome to the group. Blake sounds like my son, Gareth, when he was that age. He had such a wicked temper and head banged whenever he could if he didn't get his way or was angry about something. Gareth also learned to read and do math and was on schedule up to grade 3. Funny thing is, back then, he could read a sentence, but couldn't turn around and say the same sentence. He had to SEE the words to talk. I was floored when the first grade teacher called me and told me he was reading out loud. There is sooooooooooo much locked inside our kids' heads. Don't ever give up on the academics!!! When we put him on Risperdal and Prozac, at age 10, he started talking (2-3 word sentences) freely. When Gareth was 5-6 y/o, he was already putting together 100 piece puzzles....I was so proud...my kid was doing so well, loved sitting for hours and doing puzzles. Yeah....then, the reality sets in that it's because of the big * A * that he was doing those things!!! When he was dx'd between ages 5-6, there was very little known about autism. It was till 1/5000 kids. Now it's 1/100 and we have a whole generation of autistic kids. Take care, Everyone.
