Why would anyone be so against alternative medicines?

" Alternative medicine " is too wide and too undefined a category and people will

have very different ideas about what their votong for or against. I would prefer

for medical students to spend a lot more of their time learning about nutrition

and health - at the moment they learn almost nothing. I would also like them to

learn how to read and assess a medical research paper so they can spot what's

good research and what's bad and to learn more about the history of medicine.

Only a few years back the BBC website carried a story which showed that about

one third (I think) of medical treatments were unsupported by evidence.. so much

for everything in mainstream medicine being scientific. I should also like them

to learn more about the limitations of research into the safety of mainstream

drugs, including vaccines.
