Margaret,Without supplementation I cannot understand how Henry achieved a level of 63.8 nmol/L especially during winter here. Does he eat loads of fish? To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Sent: Monday, 30 April 2012, 18:24

Subject: Comments re Henry's Vit. D status please?

I don't know anything much about Vitamin D supplementation and levels. These results just came back from City Assays for Henry:

Total Vitamin D Status:66.6 nmol/L ADEQUATE

Interpretive Guide:

25-hydroxyvitamin D 3 63.8 nmol/l

25-hydroxyvitamin D2 2.8 nmol/L

Is this quite good for the end of the winter, please? He hasn't had any supplements containing Vitamin D this winter. Despite his result, would he still benefit from supplementation at a low level (and how much?) or would it be unwise?

Thanks,

Margaret

Both Henry and Darla's lad submitted very small spots on the test, I wondering if this effects results, Sam's were smaller also and he was highest of the 4 of us although I have done higher dosing on me than him

Yes, I was wondering about that. The results are way, way over the national average. Is this an NHS test?? To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Sent: Monday, 30 April 2012, 21:01 Subject: Re: Comments re Henry's Vit. D status please?

On Charlies NHS vit D results it give the following guidance:Less than 25 nmol/L  severe deficiency.  Vit D replacement required.25-50 Deficiency. Supplementation indicated

50-75 may be sub-optimal and long term may lead to clinical effects.  Advise on safe sun exposure and diet.  Supplementation may be indicatedOver 75  adequate level

Charlies paed said needs to be over 75Opinions do vary and many supplement to higher levelVitamin D council indicates optimal levels should be 125 - 200Dr G want boths my kids at 125.

No, he doesn't each much oily fish any more since he started at weekly boarding

school 14 months ago. Before that he used to have sardines 2 or 3 times a

week.None of the supplements he is on contain Vitamin D or Vitamin A.

I have wondered if the smaller samples have somehow skewed the test results but another mum posted that her results were something like 170 and she doesn't supplement and I presume that she did not give a small sample.

, I think we are all using the city assay test which is done at a NHS lab here:

http://www.vitamindtest.org.uk/ My results were in line with the Vit D test that an NHS rheumatologist had ordered for me so that gives me some reassurance that the results are accurate.

I am confused as to whether to keep dosing but since I can see that he is much much happier without his dose, I am stopping for now and may just dose him occasionally.  I still don't understand how his dose can be so high but it seems that he is not alone in having the higher levels on a low dose / no dose.
