Guest guest
Hello, I posted a few weeks ago after a 6 week stint on vancomycin brought big improvements to my son but after we stopped it, the clostridia seemed to be coming back. After some great advice on here, we resumed the vancomycin at a lower dose, and still have about 10 days to go on it. We also upped the probiotics and are giving charcoal. The first week was fantastic, but now it seems like he either caught the flu or is experiencing die off. He feels very hot but doesn't actually have a temperature. He has a rash on his cheeks and a deep red nappy rash. All of his skin seems very dry, he has no appetite and seems exhausted. He has a runny nose. I was just wondering if this sounds like die off to you or if it is just a flu bug that he has caught. He is virtually never ill, even though his brother gets every virus going. Could it be that as the clostridia die off he is more susceptible to 'normal' germs and his immune system is acting normally for once? The first time round with vancomycin he had die off at the beginning and he was very hyper/stimmy during it, which is very different to how he is now. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! Jo, I'm on my way out now and don't have much time but wanted to say we never saw any of these symptoms as die off with the vancomycin....not one of them. Sounds like he's caught something. Others will no doubt help you with the red nappy rash. Must fly, x

About that rash, what antifungal is he on? How many weeks are you doing on the vancomycin this time? x
Guest guest
He is very lethargic and his ears are now red hot. When I take his temp it is normal but he feels warmer than usual and the rash on his cheeks feels hot and he has a rash like a welt on his bottom, next to the nappy rash (!?). He isn't on an antifungal this time, the doctor just prescribed another 3 wks of vancomycin without the fluconazole. Then we have to test vancomycin levels in the blood and general biochemistry. Will see what the GP says... > > > > > thanks , I am taking him to the GP this pm. Not looking forward to trying to explain about the clostridia to GP though! x > > > > Jo, > Is he that lethargic? Jo, On vancomycin my son had problems even with the fluconazole and I ended up adding natural antifungals too in the end. Also just me but I think that seeings you stopped the vanco and then saw clostridia symptoms again, another three weeks isn't enough, even six. it's a spore forming bacteria but you know that. It may be hard to source the abx's, I know, I went a long way to get them but if you can't I would seek someone to help you and or put a plan in place with naturals. Unfortunately you might not come off the vanco without problems so better to have a plan in place just in case. I can't help you with the other symptoms but I am sure that others will chime in and help you. I know how it is with clostridia so I'm really hoping things get better. All the best, x
