Guest guest
Hello Kiwi... If your amylase and lipase are high then you probably have pancreatitis. Are you having much stomach pain? When I had it several years ago the pain was unbearable. If you pancreatic enzymes are still high contact a gastroenterologist, GI specialist to handle it. Happy Birthday a bit early! Guest guest
Kiwi, Debbie is right. I too had pancreatitis. Was in the hospital from June 24th - 29th. The Dr had me taking half again as much morphine as a post-op patient due to excruciating pain. As Debbie said the pain was unbearable. Get to a Dr as soon as you can. After getting out of the hospital my pancreatic enzymes were still almost twice as high as it was suppose to be and my family Dr put me on a clear liquid diet for two weeks which brought the enzymes back to normal. Take care of yourself. Joyce from Texas [ ] Re: gallbladder / stone issues Hello Kiwi... If your amylase and lipase are high then you probably have pancreatitis. Are you having much stomach pain? Guest guest
Hi Joyce, My pancreatitis hit while I was working one weekend at Seton in Austin. I went to the ER twice and told to take Mylanta. I took it every 2-3 hrs. No one checked my amylase or lipase. Finally Sun night, I couldn't take the pain anymore. I couldn't sit, only stand and stretch to raise my ribs up. My husband took me to the ER, in the am they paged my GI doc who ordered the lipase. It was very high. I was kept in the hospital for 24hr and sent home on clear liquids for 2 weeks. Now if I have similar pain he always checks my lipase. That happened in 1991 and I still remmeber the pain. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, If you're like me, you don't want it again. Mild pain hit me at 3am the 22nd of June and gradually got worse. I waited until the 24th about 10:30am before calling my son and my D-I-L took me to ER. They ran a blood test and did a scan then admitted me in the hospital. The nurse said they were giving me a bag of antibiotics every six hours and I counted 11 bags. There could have been more while I was asleep, I'm not sure about that. They were pushing pottassium also. It stayed below normal for some reason. Every time the lab tech came in to draw blood, they'd come back a little later with a bag of pottassium. After getting back home I was still having a reaction from the morphine and my family Dr ran a blood test which showed the lipase was almost twice as high as it was suppose to be and that is when he put me on the liquid diet for two weeks. The surgeon that was taking care of me ran two more scans, two upper GIs , and a sonogram trying to find out what caused me to have pancreatitis. While I was in the hospital they did an MRI and found that I have a large duedenal diverticulum. It's not hard for me to have an upset stomach. I didn't realize I was in serious condition until it was all over with. Guest guest
Thanks for telling my your story Joyce. You had it much worse than I did then. Glad you made it through all of that. I don't think I was given antibiotics while in the hospital. Just IV fluid. My GI don't did 2 different upper endoscopies on me, too. Plus a CT scan. Two years after my pancreatitis attack, I had my gall bladder removed. He said that probably contributed to it. Debbie L --- In , " J. L. Guest guest
I'm doing just fine right now. I'm fixing to go to my Dr so he can check my left foot and leg. There is a lot of swelling in it. Years ago I had a blood clot in the left leg. Joyce from Texas [ ] Re: gallbladder / stone issues Thanks for telling my your story Joyce. Guest guest
Hi Kiwi, 4 years ago I had a severe stomach ache that I thought was just gas, or that I was going to be getting diahrea. But, the pain didn't go away and I couldn't stand anything touching my stomach or back. My grown daurghter found me stripped naked in bed just buckled over in pain. She rushed me to the emergency room and they took me in as a true emergency. Didn't have to wait hours. I don't know that I had hours to wait. They ran tests and took an ultrasound and told me that I was having an acute pancreatic attach and that I had to be hospitalized. THe doctor told me that he had never seen the amalase and lipaise readings this hign on a living person. That really scared me. They had to put an NG tube down my nose and into my stomach and drain it for 4 days (not allowed to eat anything) before they could even operate on me because I was in such bad shape. Once the readings went down, I was sent to surgery and had my gallbladdar removed due to a blockage and have been ok since. I remember this so clearly because this was a Monday, I went to occupational therapy that morning for my wrist that had been operated on a few weeks earlier and my daughter was getting married that Saturday. I was released the morning of my daughter's wedding and just made it on time. As it turns out, now just being diagnosed with RA only a few weeks ago, my rhummy thinks that my conditions are all related. I had the gallbladdar issue, I have thyroid dysfunction, had fatty tumors removed from my thyroid areas, thank God they were benign and I have had to have bones removed from my wrist because they lost blood supply and died. I sure do wish I knew then what I know now, because things are falling into place and I'm finally getting answers to why I have so many joint pains and bone death in my wrist. It all starte 7 years ago, and no one knew to check for any systemic reasons for my ills. Well, I didn't intend to make this into a novel. I hope you feel better soon, and do get in to a gastrointerologist doctor soon and get it checked out. I've heard you can have chronic cases of pancreatitis. Mine was acute, and no problems since. Wish you all the best, Les deebs87 <dlohf@...> wrote: Hello Kiwi... If your amylase and lipase are high then you probably have pancreatitis. Are you having much stomach pain?
