Guest guest
Zinc deficiency and diarrhea often go together. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20348128Certain foods with high phytate content (grains, nuts, soy, beans like kidney, lentil, brown in short any type of bean) unless they are soaked (over 10 hours to be sure), fermented or germinated will chelate with the zinc and decrease bioavailability. Milk will do the same but how much zinc is chelated depends on the origin of the milk. In descending order cow's milk chelates the most, then goat's, camel's, sheep's with human milk the least problematic. Zinc is important for over 300 enzymatic processes, improves wound healing (ulcers in gut) and lately I have learned that zinc is important also for dampening down the the glutamates (excitatory neurotransmitters) . This may well explain why it is useful in decreasing hyperactivity. Glutamates are abundant all over the body particularly in the gut. Cutler has recommended a dose per weight of child. I think it's 1 mg. zinc to one pound child but I can't be 100% sure. He has an idea on what is best absorbed but I don't remember which one. I've known 2 year olds that take in doses of 6 caps. 2-3 twice a day is common, increase slowly and see how he goes Mx HelloMy son usually takes one CP1 in the morning and one at night. He had a sickness & diarrhea bug 4 weeks ago now which has left him with very bad diarrhea & mucus. I have tried to give him his usual dose of CP1 but this hasn't helped, then I tried to remove it all together and this hasn't helped, he is now having one CP1 a day and he is still having the bad diarrhea (but well in himself). He has been tested at the docs for any bacterial infections which have all come back negative. The doc has tried to tell me it's toddler diarrhea which is caused by lactose intolerance ( but he isn't on any dairy products at all!!) I was going to try a blow out of CP1 to see if this would sort him out bur not sure what is a safe dose to go up to, any advise would be greatly received. Many ThanksLucy
