Guest guest
I've been thinking about this a lot Kirsty. I really believe that autism mums are in a bad way! We biomed mums at least have hope and probably slightly healthier diets etc (cos of our kds's diets). When I meet non biomed mums they usually turn out to be on Prozac - another nice little earner for the drugs companies. I really do think we should all go for counselling as early on as possible because it is such a big blow to have this happen to your baby. Totally agree that we should all be doing biomed with our kids. I also wanted to add that most people advise trying to go for a walk, read a book, etc but for me socialising is much more de-stressing and a much better reminder of who I am. It's taken me nearly 7 years to pluck up the courage to see pre-autism friends - and none of them live anywhere near me - but it's been a big help, Sara x
Guest guest
Natasa are you meaning ACE makes you go faster and get more exhuasted? I can't see a couple of days worth making any difference at all to exhausted adrenals, given high doses for 6 months before a felt a thing, but I was a serious case. But agree you need other support supps in to rebuild as well as fire up. I didn't realise ACE and support supps when you are exhausted slows you down not speeds you up until I forgot for few days and couldn't sleep at all. You also need ACE not just adrenal glandular for the base Did you have a bad experience? Mandi x Well said! But I'd like to add adrenal cortex is a double edge sword, it can back fire and mess up your adrenals even further if taken long term or for long-ish stretches. I personally would take in on rare occasions only and only few days in a row, if at all. Otherwise one can end up taking it to offset the symptoms that it itself is causing :-0 Natasa Reply-To: "Autism-Biomedical-Europe@yah oogroups.com" <Autism-Biomedical-Europe >Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2012 10:12:07 -0000To: "Autism-Biomedical-Europe " <Autism-Biomedical-Europe >Subject: Autism Mums looking after themselves Seeing as us Autism mums do not get to relax and de-stress like most of our friends, I just wanted to get us all on here to think about what we do for ourselves. We all take so much time looking into supplements and treatments for our kids, we need to start doing the same for ourselves. After all, it is down to us parents to start looking after ourselves so we are able to keep up the astounding work we all do for our children. We are stressed much of the time, sleep deprived and maybe not eating well either.I talked about this briefly when i spoke at the TA conference a couple of years back and was really looking after myself then. Gradually, after two years of getting up through the night (on top of the usual awakenings to do Cutler doses) I found myself really starting to struggle. I was constantly tired and stressed, eating rubbish to keep my sugar levels up etc. It is only recently, when Sam's health has deteriorated again, that I am looking after myself again, and it has made me realise how vital my health is to Sam's recovery.I feel more awake and alert, healthier and more able to cope when things start going wrong (or when you want to commit manslaughter to NHS staff).I am trying to make myself go to bed earlier, which is a struggle for me because I wake up in the evening (adrenal issues), I am eating better, trying to move away from the snack cupboard when i feel rubbish. I make green juice most mornings for myself which keeps my stomach in order and hair, nails and skin all improve. And the thing to top it all off is the supplements i take. Adrenal cortex is absolutely vital for all of us in this house. The only person not taking it is my youngest son, who will be soon, and the dog (he has his own supplements and diatom !)A good womans multivit. On top of these i also take Vit C, Magnesium, Iodoral (important for women), fish oils, Evening primrose, Candida clear, Vit D3, B Vitamins and a parasite cleanse every few months. On top of this an oxypowder clearout too helps (when you do not need to go anywhere!!!)The key is consistency. Take the vits everyday and you will find yourself coping more. May be an extra expense, but if we are willing to do it for our kids, we must do it for ourselves too, as we are what they rely on each day.And get out with friends often!! and laugh!!! lots!!!Lecture overJust wanted to help some people out if they are feeling stuck in a rut.Now back to fighting autism. Guest guest
If I felt like I did and was non verbal I'd want to curl up and die, What do you suggest as an alternative? Its taken more than 6 months for my adrenals to even come back on line as my reflexoligist says, I have no doubts that they would not have done without high dose ACE. It takes a week or more for the sleep pattern to be affected in me and during that time I wasn;t taking anything rather than just not taking ACE Mx I meant ace or glandulars, whatever is able to play with cortisol levels has the potential to mess up adrenal function even further. I only took it for a very short while, few days only (stopped for other reasons), but know of quite a few cases where people's adrenals and cortisol regulation ended up far worse off — so you can end up creating kind of dependency/vicious cycle (which could be why you cannot sleep without it now?). There is discussion on it on several forums, including posts by clinicians who have seen this happen in practices so no longer recommend it apart from short stretches of time and only when there is dire need. Guest guest
Lucinda had me on some specific ones for a couple of months, I forget now but all round support for adrenals thyroid etc, its all a knock on effect. Most recently I talked with Mark at Finchley and I am doing his own formula Kelp and Licorice Formula A alongside the ACE. I don't feel any different than I did just taking straight ACE and a regular multi but that doesn;t mean its not doing anything Salt loading made a big difference. Minerals in the form of ascorbates although my source of this has been discontinued Vitamin C and B5 I think are important alongside ACE in higher than regular doses, something most of our kids are on anyways, there are loads of websites about adrenal fatigue Mx Mandi what other supplements do you need? iodoral? Guest guest
I'd say both, esp as children would not be able to tell how they feel imo that is an additional riskReply-To: "Autism-Biomedical-Europe " <Autism-Biomedical-Europe >Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2012 11:42:00 -0400 (EDT)To: "Autism-Biomedical-Europe " <Autism-Biomedical-Europe >Subject: Re: Autism Mums looking after themselves Natasa the adrenal cortex you say that just for us mums or the same applies to our children? Guest guest
Adrenal fatigue can often be a by-product of chronic inflammation and ox stress, if you have those two need to sort them out first or alongside imo. Hate attempting to diagnose by be email long distance but all those symptoms from here sound like mild ME, which is much more than adrenal fatigue (ie multi-system multi organ neuroinflammatory etc). Glad to hear you managed to get on top if it, that is what counts! What else are you taking?Btw I'm not trying to say don't take ace or glandulars or that it WILL mess you up long term --- everyone is different and there are not definite 'truths' in anything imo, but this is something that not many people are aware of so I feel the urge of playing devils advocate lol esp when it comes to giving those things to kids.
