Hi Christo

My 18 year old severely autistic daughter has always had repeated ear

infections.

She has severe behaviour problems and would never allow the GP to look in her

ears.

A year or two ago I bought an otoscope from amazon. It was about 30 quid and

isn,t anywhere near good as the one the GP uses but I practised looking in

Sophies ears every night and gradually she got used to it. She will let anyone

look in her ears now. I have noticed she gets loads of thick wax build up really

quickly. To help with this I spray some olive oil in her ears every night to keep

the wax soft.I have tried stringing with a special syringe (also purchased from

amazon) This however has always resulted in an ear canal infection for Sophie so

I no longer do this.

Using the otoscope I can now recognise when an infection is brewing.Knowing what

to do about the infection is a different matter of course as I generally try and

avoid antibiotics ( other than those prescribed by Dr G) I have been using

mullein flower ear oil from Mandimart to try and sooth as well as ibuprofen.

I also bought a thermometer that you put in the ear and monitor her temperature

morning and evening to try and monitor how serious the infection is. I think all

these ear infections are just a symptom of a shot to pieces immune system.

Sorry I am not much help, hope Stephanos is better soon,

BW

Its been a wild 3 years with puberty kicking in... I am sure everyone has there

own experience.... The past few days , well 7 days , he started to get very

agressive with himself and start hitting the side of his ear... started the pain

killers, calpol, and nurofen... he would calm for the time the pain killers were

working but go mad again, he goes through the day on regular intervals holding

the ear gently , it always seems to be red in colour due to the touching of it,

or hotting it...... He wouldnt allow the Dr to look into the ear, and so we

started the antibiotic.... after 4 days it does seem better but he still is

bothered by the same ear.How can this be, could it be wax, or a sensory thing

that is making him get annoyed or could it be that he is still

> in pain....what is the best way to deal with this... its quite frightening

......has anyone else ever had similar issues... how to deal....

Chriso,My son is a lot younger (just 7 years old) but he has complained of ear pain and we finally worked out that it was his molars (his furthest back teeth) that were causing " referred pain " that he thought was an earache.  My son was insistent that it was  an earache but indeed it was his tooth.  It may not be the case for your son but it's worth having his teeth checked if that is possible.

So with his age it could be tooth decay, rather than teething, maybe?

I found that mullein on it's own didn't work here, but we needed the mullein and

garlic. You can always add a couple cloves of garlic to the mullein oil for

24 hours.

We used it every night for my daughter after a long run of terrible ear

infections. While we changed other things to try to address the underlying

problems, that usage prevented more occurences.
