Guest guest
There can be problems with conversion of Omega 3s from plant sources to the form which the body can use. This is especially a problem in males where some males may only be able to manage a 1% conversion rate. I learnt this from reading 's They Are What You Feed Them and hearing her speak at a TA conference. This is why fish oils are really the best thing. Margaret > > > > I have ben recommended by Dr G to get loads of oils into the boys pre op. Can anyone recommend what might be the easiest to disguise/hide in food etc. Fish oils are so disgusting and boys can detect them too easily. Two of them do take some capsules but one will not and one is too little to take capsules. What can I mix into food? They aren't on any special dietary restrictions so that makes it a bit easier. > > Thanks, > > >

Guest guest
,My son can detect the oils in just about anything but here are a few ways that I've gotten them down himYou can buy Nordic Naturals Omega 3 gummies - these do have sugar in them. They are very palatable. They have a mild orange flavour and a very slight fishy aftertaste. They are not very high dose but would eat 5 or 6 of them at once because he's a sweetie freak, lol. Eventually he went off of them. They have less of a fishy aftertaste if you keep them in the fridge but this makes them harder to chew. NN is a reliable source of good oils. Freezing the oils makes them far more palatable. (Mandi said this once many years ago, it was a gem of an idea for us)So you can put EFAs into home made popsicles (I foget what these are called in the UK - you know, the frozen thingys on a stick) I used to freeze Orange Juice which is a strong flavour and the oils together in a small paper cup with a popsicle stick, then tear the paper off once frozen. You have to stick the sticks in after it's frozen which makes it a bit fiddly but it works. I've also managed to get a few drops of CLO into his ketchup which is unfortunately ubiquitous at our house...I also found that hiding it in ice cream is possible - but only if the ice cream is on a cone. I think it is the licking and getting small amounts at once that must make it palatable. I rolled it into the middle of the hard frozen ice cream scoop. When I mixed it into ice cream in a small bowl, he sussed me out every time, lol. I'm sure I have a few other ways but I can't think of them now as the neighbours had a party and were up till 5 and all 3 of us are knackered...Good luck - and if the boys are going to have Nitrous Oxide be sure to dose up on BVits as it depletes the B Vits. (There is a paper for this but I'm not organised enough to link it right now.) Best wishes,Darla I have ben recommended by Dr G to get loads of oils into the boys pre op. Guest guest
Ah - replying to myself here but I just remembered 2 other ways that I'm getting the EFAs into him - grass fed beef (apparently higher in Omega 3's than fish) and Omega 3 Eggs. ,My son can detect the oils in just about anything but here are a few ways that I've gotten them down him You can buy Nordic Naturals Omega 3 gummies - these do have sugar in them. Guest guest
I think so - but I don't have any references. Guest guest
Thanks all, I got the Udo's oil to try and sneak into some yogourt for our little one. The older 3 are all taking capsules of fish oil but at 3, I can't expect Marcus to swallow a big fat capsule. The older boys are all on B12 and a pile of other things so hopefully we are covered now. > > > ** > > > > > > I have ben recommended by Dr G to get loads of oils into the boys pre op. > > Can anyone recommend what might be the easiest to disguise/hide in food > > etc. Fish oils are so disgusting and boys can detect them too easily. Guest guest
Can I ask people a question? Has anyone had problems with their children reacting to these fish oil products? My son seems to be VERY chemically sensitive to everything and I have tried the Nordic Naturals which he definitely reacted to and have now been slowly building up his dose with the Eye Q vanilla liquid that was recommended to me and I think he is reacting to that as well - getting very moody and dark and aggressive. It does say on the website that the processing uses synthetic additives that may make it unsuitable for people on a special diet, but it seems to be raved about by so many people who I would assume are sensitive to chemicals as well, so I can't understand whats going on. Anyone have any experience of this? I would love to get him on fish oils but if it makes the behaviour so much worse I'm not sure it's worth it... Guest guest
Some kids react to the vitamin E used if they are very sensitve to soy (often the basis of the E). Some people are just allergic to fish. Some kids don't digest fats well and need enzymes (lipase) to help with that. Guest guest
there is alot of information/research papers on the FAB/her website, loads about omega 3s: http://www.fabresearch.org/473 Nikki > > >>> > > >>> I have ben recommended by Dr G to get loads of oils into the boys pre op. Guest guest
I found that if i take CLO on an empty stomach it gives me stomach ache so i now always take with food, which has solved the problem. So just wondering if the same is happening with your little one? this may also be related to Anita's comment about some kids (and me i persume!) having trouble digesting fats. Guest guest
If we take oil without food, then our body doesn't know to digest. Best to have the whole digestion process started properly by smelling food and chewing food, then the body will do its best to release stomach acid, etc, and get the whole process started. I think about 25% of enzyme release is triggered by the brain, so if you just take a couple spoons of fish oil, your brain doesn't think " meal " and start the process. Some enzyme activity is from your stomach actually filling, so just oil won't set that process off either. Of course, for lots of our kids the best the body can do isn't enough, hence lots of kids (and parents) need the supplemental enzymes. Also remembered that some kids actually need more omega 6's before they seem to tolerate omega 3's. So, loading with 6's for a bit makes the clo/fish oil better tolerated. Can't remember if there was a reasonable explanation for this though, but the experience of some parents. Guest guest
That's was us in the very beginning, had to do EPO topically and orally for 6 weeks before he could tolerate CLO, it was Willis that said to do it Mx Also remembered that some kids actually need more omega 6's before they seem to tolerate omega 3's. Guest guest
That's what I do with Sam, I say yuck, ergh so its not a shock and as long as he can do it in one mouthful he is fine with just water as a chaser Mx but he does when we present it to him straight "this tastes shit, take it and we'll be very pleased".
