Guest guest
Hi Deidre, Welcome to the group. My baby's tort was treated from a physical therapist with excellent results. We do have members here that have used chiropractors and have gotten excellent results. I'm sure they'll chime in here and tell you all about it. --- In Plagiocephaly , " cdjmmiller " <cdmg94@e...> wrote: > Hi all. New member with a question on chiropractors. Guest guest
Deidre- I have heard of many parents that used chiropractors who said they had great results. I took my son to a chiro about 6 months ago as we started seeing some residual tightness/ and tilt. He was a pediatric chiro and was referred to me as the best- so we decided to give this a try. I had heard other parents talk about the activator tool, which basically just "bumps" the neck vertebrae back into alignment- but he said he wanted to do hands on manipulation first. My dh went and he had my son lay on top of him, and then before I knew it, popped his neck sideways and it popped. I was just a little uneasy seeing cry (therapy was worse really)- and seeing him twist him so quickly. Many parents have said the tilt was gone from using chiro- but we've seen results as well with just righting exercises and staying on top of his posture. I would definetly look into that option as there have been too many positive posts about it not to recommend it to you. I just felt at the time, it didn't warrant further treatment, we had already been resolved and the frequent tilting it turns out, was more due to a big molar coming in, he's been midline until he teeths. I would make sure the chiro is a pediatric one and has experience treating torticollis. Good luck, hope this helps! ' Mom

Guest guest
I don't think that a chiro can help with plagio but some members including myself have used chiros for the tort. Is Tori in regular physical therapy? I would recommend that for her first. In our case, we have only decided to go to a chiro after we had exhausted physical therapy. Guest guest
, We didn't use a chiro for na but she didn't have tightness in the shoulder. The chiro really can't effect the headshape but I have heard some parents say the tort and range of motion improved dramatically. However, improving the neck tightness can release some of the "pull" on the skull base making it easier for ears and facial asymmetry to correct. Does that make sense. I would look into your options. If you can find an experieinced pediatric chiro it wouldn't hurt to have a consult. Please keep us posted because we don't have a lot of info on chiro treatment. mom to na DOC Grad South Carolina www.thefilyaws.com thejenbear22 <jennifer.schmidt@...> wrote: My daughter Tori (4.5 months) is in her third week of wearing a DOC band to treat her plagio. Guest guest
HI ! I'm Sara and I'm a newbie here! I've posted about my Daughter Sofia - 6 months old - she has plagio and torticollis. I've been taking her to a Chiropractor for about 2 months now. Her tort has improved dramatically - which also has improved her head shape, that was proven when we went in for the appt. after the casting, and the Ortho said " there has been some improvement " and he showed me the diagram - it was pretty cool! That was BEFORE her helmet was on her head once. Just make sure it is a corrective care chiropractor or straight chiropractor - not someone who wants to do all kinds of other stuff. If you have any more questions, I can get info. from my Chiro. Good luck! Wish US luck tomorrow = we have Sofia's NEW ortho. APPT! Guest guest
I never thought I would agree with you, but I wholeheartedly agree!! A friend of mine said her son kept turning his head a certain way and her doctor referred her to a chiropractor right away (at his 2 week appt). The appt helped immediately and they had no more problems. I wish my doctor would have referred us, but now we know. We will be seeing a chiropractor for Aidan next week Monday and she will be working on rounding out his head using Cranial Sacral Therapy. We are very excited to get started and I will keep everyone posted on how it is going.nadege_mix <nadege_mix@...> wrote: My daughter was diagnosed with torticollis when she was 2 months old. Finally, my husband asked the physical therapist about seeing a chiropractor and she said it might help. The chiropractor knew right away what was causing the shorter leg and the torticollis. It was all due to the first vertebrate being misaligned during the birth process that was never realigned after the birth. After a 5min session, the vertebrate was back in place and both legs were perfect. He said the torticollis might have been prevented if that vertebrate would have been aligned as soon a possible.I am sharing this with you in hope that you might avoid going through the many months of PT and possibly a mishapened head. Guest guest
Nadege, Thank you so much for posting this! I have been wondering about taking my daughter to a chiropractor. It is possibly too late though as my daughter has been diagnosed with plagio and brachy as well as tort and will need a band. Perhaps it can still be of benefit? Guest guest
Does anyone know if a chiropractor can help with the tilt? My dd's range of motion side to side has improved greatly in the 6 months that she's been going to see a PT twice a week (she went from moderate/severe tort to mild/moderate). Now her main problem is the tilt, or rather compensating for the tilt. We have a chiropractor and I took her in for a couple of adjustments several months ago. He is a good chiro but he doesn't specialize in children or seem to know a whole lot about torticollis. She's been in a STARband for a little over a month now and the craniofacial specialist says that she's making good progress but the flat spot would improve more if we got rid of the tightness that's causing the tilt. I'm increasing the amount of stretching we're doing at home but I wonder if we should start seeing the chiropractor too?Alison mom to Leila, born 9/25/05 (tort/plagio, STARband 6/5/06)Boynton Beach, FL Plagiocephaly From: ljschroth@...Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2006 19:51:39 -0700Subject: Re: Chiropractor I never thought I would agree with you, but I wholeheartedly agree!! Guest guest
Thanks for sharing. We took our son to a chiropractor when he was 2 months old and our pediatrician wasn't happy about it at all, but I have to say it really helped. The chiropractor said his neck was all misaligned. After just one visit to the chiro, my son was able to turn his head in all directions where before he couldn't. The chiro has us following up with him every couple months, but so far it's been extremely helpful. He also sleeps better in general since seeing a chiropractor. Guest guest
Hi, 4 1/2 months is still very young. It is not too late to try chiro. If anything, it will greatly enhance her physical therapy. I just started cranial sacral therapy for my daughter at 6 1/2 months. It's better late than never, and as difficult torticollis is to correct, everything you do will be of benefit. Good Luck! Guest guest
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone recomends chiropractic care while having RA?? I went to one years ago before having RA and now with all my shoulder and neck pains, I wonder if it would be safe to go again having RA?? Also, 2 years ago I was told that I have 2 bulging discs in my neck, so the thought of being adjusted in the neck area scares me.Thanks for any responses. Guest guest
Hi Heidi, I usually go to my wonderful chiropractor every other week. He is absolutely great. He uses gentle movements and I don't know if I would survive this if I didn't have him. I totally recomment going to one as long as he uses the gentle manipulation methods. I also go to the massage therapist in his office about once a month. Meredith in Canada [ ] chiropractor Hello all, I was wondering if anyone recomends chiropractic care while having RA?? Guest guest
I was going every week, but had to cut back because I think it may have been too much and causing more pain. It took me over a year to figure it out. So I try to gauge how I am doing as see if the pain outweight the pain the adjustment will cause then I go, if not I don't want to stir things up. Guest guest
You do need to be careful with the neck with RA. With your disc problem, it would make sense to avoid neck adjustments.
