Sam has been on 400mg of Zithromax for 4 weeks, We retested his blood and his

strep levels are still as high as they were at the beginning of the month.

We are continuing 400mg for another 3 months.

In my opinion. you need a higher dose every day for quite a long time to attack

this.

We use Jarrow coconut softgels, caprylic acid and have sadly had to go onto

diflucan on sunday as yeats a huge issue here. The poo is burning sam's skin as

its coming out! Sudacrem been useful.

GSE is evil here, couldn't put Sam through that on top of everything else but

Tom may be ok with it. You will soon know!!!

seeing much die off. We're giving charcoal at night but it's never helped this

much. Worried that the dose isn't high enough at 250. Or perhaps Tom's just

better at dealing with it. And nappies (yes, he's still in nappies) like silage

- sorry - like there's been a mass murder of rodents in a sugar cane field, then

it's rained and then there's been a real heatwave. Pretty distinctive nappies!

Not keen to start him on diflucan again just yet - any new ideas on yeast

combatters that just keep in check, don't wipe out? Probiotics have never

touhed the sides (and he's having antibiotics 3 times a day) - kombucha on tap

perhaps? Mark very loathe to give more RX meds on top of the four he's already

on, understandable. Would very dilute GSE help at all or is that just pure

anti bacterial?

That's a carpet bomber, kills everything but makes it very hard to reestablish good balance of flora IME

thanks Kirsty, we've never used coconut or caprylic acid so that's really

helpful. Poor Sam - that sounds majorly uncomfortable.

probably more problems than it solves then. Tom as a yeasty beasty is just

permanently giggling and drunk and it drives Mark totally nuts. Hey ho, at

least Tom thinks it's funny :-)

I agree with Mandi. Most people don't use enough probiotics. You need

trillions sometimes, esp for kids who may have had antibiotics in utero or in

the first couple months of life. I like Candex but it will cause die off. I

also like Epicor, but I think it'll only help if a kid's immune system hasn't

been trained to recognize beneficial bacteria as 'other' by early antibiotics.

If someone is low in biotin, then the immune system will have a hard time

targeting the yeast as it can 'hide'.

All 3 of my boys started Zithro before Christmas, 250mg. After 12 weeks

(February) the older two's level was unchanged at 400. 's level increased

from 400 to 800 at which point he became very aggressive. We stopped the Zithro

for the older boys but increased 's to 500mg day. I am very glad to say

that a few weeks ago we checked his level and it is back to 400. So he continues

on Zithro and I don't know if we are getting anywhere with it as we were pleased

that the strep level halved but only down to what it was before Christmas so

that's not exactly success is it?
