Guest guest
if you don't mind me asking, how long have you had your band and how much weight have you lost??? The reason I am asking is that I read on here in the files (I think) that you need to loose the majority of weight in the first 2 years as after that it slows right down. If you are wanting to loose 15kg in what time did you give yourself to do that? Hope you don't mind my questions and I am learning all the time on here. Thanks again, Ingrid > > > Hiya Ingrid > > That is the right mind set - you will miss not being able to put > anything and everything in your mouth - but you will be all the better > for it. Guest guest
No worries Ingrid, always happy to answer questions! I got my first band in May 2004 and got down to 67kg in December 05. I then had the band out because of complications and gained 25+ kg. I had a new band in February 06 and have only lost about 10kg or something. I had struggled with this second band, mainly because I have not been vigilant in following the rules, however I have a new fill in as of yesterday and I am back to the `no hunger' phase that is when I have had most success. Plus I have been doing the gym and Pilates thing too, trying to at least get things moving. The time frame I have set myself is slightly unrealistic, but hey – that is me. I am a dreamer, I would like to get to 70kg and then I will be happy with how far I have come.
Guest guest
Thanks , you have done well....would you agree that the first 2 years is the most important in terms of weight loss? I know you can cheat with the band, eat chocolate, icecream etc so if you stay clear of all these things and exercise what would your average weight loss be? I know everyone is different, but an average would be interesting. I am 98kg and are going to Melbourne around September this year and I am trying to get some idea what I could loose if I do all the right things? I am going to see family I haven't seen in a few years and would love to give them something to talk about !!!! Guest guest
Hiya Ingrid I think the average is 1-2 kg a week, however this is once you have a good level of fill etc. So by September you should theoretically have lost at least 10 + kg - all things going well. It is thrilling when you 'give them something to talk about'. I had that moment on Saturday when I had some cousins that havent seen me for years comment. I would have liked to be at my old >70kg but alas... People here are eating pizza, omg - I need to get out of here because I am drooling and there is no way I can do pizza. I think that might be grounds for an early mark

Guest guest
Sabine Sustagen is very good for you in the liquid stage of your diet that is why Bronwyn puts in the diet sheet. If you drink everything at the time she has told you everything will be fine. I followed her sheet to the T and I never ever had a problem. Also I have never been hungry since the day I was banded. Guest guest
Hi Hehehe, well, now that I am 23kg down, I am finally getting a bit of confidence I still have a lot more to go, but I think it was because I had just been on holidays, I had lost another 1.5kg whilst I was away, I had a good tan and I just generally felt pretty good about myself and knew that I looked better than I had in years! This prompted me to dip my toe in the dating pool, very cautiously, and I went on a first date with a bloke. A couple of days later, I SMS'd him to say "thanks for the dinner and it was nice to meet you" sorta thing....he sent one back saying "it was good and would like to catch up again". I nearly fell off my chair when I got it! So, very early days but at least its positive for a change. You WILL meet someone who is "into" you, you know! This might take a while though, which is why you have female friends to go and drink wine and yap with in the meantime Friendships are tricky sometimes too. Some friends are meant to be with you for your life's journey, some friends only for a short time in a particular stage of your life and some just to teach you something - although the message is usually lost until later! I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, and that includes things like not getting a particular job you have your heart set on (it means you are free to get a better one!) or a male friend not being romantically interested in you (this means that he isnt quite right for you and someone else is!) etc. I learnt this from a friend of mine some years ago, and it really helps me with life's little knocks. I hope I am making some sense here.... My friend who told me men dont like women unless they are under 88kg has had some issues in the past with weight etc, and I know she really hates her bigger body, which is something I really dont. So, I figure she is coming from her own understanding of what is attractive and what isnt - I know that my body isnt as nice to look at as some woman who is a size 10 - but there are plenty of skinny women who dont have much to offer apart from their figures....I'd rather be me Anyway, rambling on....sorry. Mon Hiya Mon Its hard - like you I just dont try too hard because I figure, nah they wouldn't want a ten tonne Tessie so I just slink along in the background. Guest guest
I have a good report on . Kristie took her to hospital this morning and she was a little nervous or should I say a big nervous. When Kristie went to see her after the surgery she was as bright as a button and feeling good and had been up and walking already. So that is great news. Guest guest
! Great to have you back! I bet it was a challenge, travelling with a flu is not fun at all :-( Friday lunch will be great to see you again, and how funny that you have 'announced' your lunch appointment - I do much the same thing so I can come out to play to. It doesn't always work for me, but lately they have caught on that I need some down time and this is one way for me to get it. I hope to hear some great stories of the reactions from family and friends on your progress.

I am in a study group with a different medical center than my insurance. All meds are free and free viral load tests. Low cost doctor visits. Take advantage of the freebies if you can get some. Guest guest
Is the social skills group something put on by the school. I have a 9 year old that so far I have not mentioned it to the school, but I don't know how much longer this will be possible as the " worries " are starting to interfere with her concentrating, etc. at school. I also think it is again having an effect on her relationships, too. We think we are dealing with PANDAS and have been on antibiotics since August and doing pretty well (other than horrible fear at night), but she got sick right after New Years and the worries started up again. We had to add a second antibiotic, and it seems to help at first, but it didn't stop the worries completely as before (although we never got rid of the horrible fear at night, etc.). Mornings and the clothes (socks and jean and most pants especially) are still a horrible issue. She is so frustrated getting dressed. We can't get in to see anyone for months. We did have a few sessions in the beginning with a psychologist (not on our insurance) who feels it is definitely OCD and most probably PANDAS from her history. I am working with her pediatrician at present and thank God for that. I don't know what I would do otherwise. I have seen posts where people had said that they felt the medications did not help in PANDAS as it did in the regular OCD, even though they suffer the same way. Is there anyone out there that is dealing with PANDAS that has tried and been successful with medications. I would really love to hear from you and maybe what medication has been successful for you. This group has helped so much. I can't believe how long it takes for all of us to get our kids in to see someone. We are looking at summer for an appointment and not sure that person will be the right one. I would appreciate hearing from any of you on this. I am in Houston, TX. Beth From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Pamela Sent: Saturday, January 23, 2010 9:57 AM To: Subject: Re: school gossip I do talk alot about anxiety within our family because they don't get it at all. I explain that is that simply caused by low levels of seritonin. And like diabetes you need more than medicine to manage it well. With diabetes you need diet, exercise and with low seritonin there are therapies that help. There are many health issues that affect emotions if left untreated. I am simplifying the explaination so our family can understand. But perhaps I am not too far off the mark. One of the family members thought if my daughter talked alot about her issues and got simply to the bottom of it she would be cured. She still thinks this. No matter what I say makes a difference. So there are so many misconceptions. I don't share this information outside the family, if I did I would say the same thing she has low seritonin and needs some meds to help. It is amazing to me how much our family cannot grasp this and we have four uncles that all are on zoloft for anxiety and OCD. Some people do not posess much insight in this area. Kids may posess even less. Your daughter can just say she is not interested in talking about this. There should be boundaries on what people can ask. And if they don't respect privacy than your daughter does not have to answer. I can understand that the fear I guess is that your daughter will be rejected if they don't understand what she has. But that should not be true, many kids have various health issues they don't want to talk about. Some kids wet the bed, they would be horrified to have others know. Or they many have reoccurring bladder infections, they would be embarassed to talk about. Some things can and should remain private within the family. good luck, Pam > > Hello all, > > I've been quiet for awhile, but have long appreciated this group. Guest guest
Just stopping in to say hi, and Best wishes for your next round hun.Love and hugs to all.dSubject: To: HepatitisCSupportGroupForDummies Date: Wednesday, April 21, 2010, 5:35 PM Hello, My name is I was diagnosed in 95 while working as a Respiratory Therapist. I was already at Stage 4 which is Cirrhosis and too late to treat. I probably contracted Hep C from a Patient in the early 80's before we even wore gloves and stuff. That's my best guess, doesn't matter, were all in the same boat. I went down very fast, got fired after 25 years as a Respiratory Therapist, 10 years at that hospital, we sued and I got my job back with back benefits and an apology, whoopeee. I wanted to go to court but I would be dead and my wife would be rich. They got rid of me for having Hep C and getting sicker. That really kicked my butt and I was in and out of the hospital in End Stage Liver Disease (ESLD) until I had a transplant in 2001. I got well enough to treat post transplant, went undetectable at 12 weeks, then at 26 weeks I had a brain stem stroke, not as bad as it sounds, I can walk and talk, I just have a bit of a stagger, like Ozzy Osbourne. I treated again a year or so later and went 52 weeks, undetectable but relapsed 6 months after treatment. I had diabetes (diet controlled) before my transplant but it got worse and I was insulin dependent after because of the foreign Liver called a graft, it is very common plus I got a little fluffy. I've lost fifty pounds, I'm off insulin and planning on treating again in May if I get the ok from my Hepatologist. I'm in a bit of a situation because I have stage three disease in my transplanted liver(graft) and will need another transplant if I don't stop the progression. All that said, I'm actually in pretty good shape, I work part time Auditing medical charts, I'm on disability but doing ok. Guest guest
Hello ..My heart goes out to you and your little one and how brave you are..you are making the right decision as far as I think because like most of of us here we had to reach for the hope that treatment would extend our life...for alot of us, our hair thinned very much, but it came back prettier and healthier..Im not too familiar with geno 6, but because she is so young, hopefully she will clear and bounce right back into her mommas arms..Today being the Day of prayer..mine are with you and your baby... love and hugs Pattymc Re: anxious No Hehe she isn't a drinker:) We would use Motrin if we could. When she was a baby we would use it for fevers, etc.. then each time she would swell more and more. Then we figured out it was an allergy. The Gastro gave me a dosing chart for the Tylenol. She wants her pretreated with a dose right before the shot and can follow up the next day, but no more than that for the week. Also we were told that any bad colds virus while on treatment that causes a fever for more than 48 hours or higher than 102 will need to admit her. Did any of you loose your hair? Or was it more thinning experienced. We were going to get some Dora bandanas or something fun for her if she needs it. Also they told us that treatment can knock out the Thyroid sometimes it comes back after treatment sometimes not. Has this happened to anyone out there? > > > > > Â > > Well tomorrow is the big day, We will start treatment on our 3 year old daughter. To say i'm anxious is an understatement. They told us what to expect but we are still terrified. I have plenty of tylenol ( She's allergic to Motrin) and Benadryl for symptoms. Picked up Pediasure with ice cream for the not eating periods. I know I need to push the fluids hard too. Anything else I should know or be prepared for? I pray to whatever higher power this works. What a terrible disease. I hope we all can defeat this. I take comfort that she has an amazing Doc who specializes in Hep kids. I know other parents who are choosing not to treat due to Genotype vs side effects and rates of SVR. But our Doc feels we have a great chance , she's 6A kindof a rare kind only found in Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Macau. My husband and I cried yesterday when we were remembering while in Vietnam getting her the Doc who did her Visa physical saying to us , "you are good people to> take a child who will most likely die of liver Cancer"" Well to him we say HA. We are going to fight this and beat it... And I will gladly take all the years with her than to have faced them never knowing her or taking the chance. Sorry pretty emotional today.. >
