Also, she has had to relax her rules a bit as some supplements I can only get in a gelatine capsule or like the thyroid hormone they are an animal derivative. Luckily, she would rather feel better than not take them! I don't know why Allergy Research don't have tryptophan in - they have put 5 htp in instead - this is what they say: Allergy Research Free Aminos is a formulation of 17 naturally occurring amino acids in their free forms. It includes 9 essential amino acids, as well as 5-L-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). This formula does not contain L-tryptophan, 5-HTP is in the same metabolic pathway as L-tryptophan and is the immediate precursor to serotonin and melatonin. This formulation is appropriate for food-sensitive individuals. It is OK to take 5 htp during the day - but, I think that someone might feel a bit tired to start with if they are short in it to start with. I'm not really sure why they help with sleep, I think that it is more than just the fact that they have 5 htp in. We were taking another brand before which didn't have 5 htp in and they improved sleep as well. I look alot on bodybuilding forums and they talk on there about taking Amino Acids at bedtime and about them helping with neurotransmitters and hormones. By the way, my daughter takes 50mg iodine per day - I started her on a 12.5mg iodoral tablet and gradually increased by one tablet until we reached 50mg. The main thing that happened was that her thyroid gland swelled up for about a week when we reached 37.5mg - she complained of a lump in her throat. The gland went back down in size on it's own. This is a sign that the gland was short of iodine (according to the iodine group), she still needs thyroid medication, but, has more energy when taking the iodine
