Guest guest
Ginger, I take prednisone, kineret, and arava for my stills and my rheumatologist makes sure that I get my flu shot every year. In fact, when there were shortages, my doctor called me and let me know they were holding one shot for me so I had to go in quickly and not miss it. I also get the pneumonia vaccine. Hope this info helps Stay Healthy
Guest guest
Ginger, I have been taking flu shots for years at the request of all my doctors. Because your immune system is already compromised by the Still's, that's every reason to take it. The shot does not contain a live virus, anyway, so wait to see what you Rheumy says and listen to him/her. As for me, I take the flu shot every October. So far, I've not gotten the flu and shudder to think what would happen if I didn't take the shot. He also gave me sinus allergy pills to take twice a day and nose spray and then ordered eye allergy drops. I guess it ALLERGY! I have a question. He wants me to have a flue shot. I was told a few years ago or last year, that because I have a type of autoamunie problem I should not take flue shots or anytype of shots like that. Did anyone here ever have that said or was it just because I was taking preds at the time. He did say he would call my arthritis doctor to find out. Thank you for any information. Guest guest
Yes it does help and thank you so much. I wonder if they will give me the pneumonia one too as that's what I seem to get very easy. I can just get a cold and it turns into this full blown pneumonia thing and land myself in the hospital. Thank you . hugs; ginger shlface@... wrote: Ginger, I take prednisone, kineret, and arava for my stills and my rheumatologist makes sure that I get my flu shot every year. Guest guest
Hi Ginger, I get a flu shot every year, and have for many years. The only problem is if you are allergic to eggs, then you cannot have the shot. Those who are immunosuppressed are supposed to get flu shots annually, that is advertised. The vaccine is dead, it is not a live virus you are being vaccinated with so it is safe. People who say the got the flu from a flu shot are wrong. The flu has an incubation period and the person was going to get the flu anyway. I've checked with several doctors and know this information from my years of being a RN. I used to volunteer to work the flu shot clinics, and would make sure my entire family was vaccinated, too. The same applies to the pneumovax, which is the pneumonia vaccine. Years ago they said it was good for a lifetime, but it has been recommended that people get it updated every 10 years - just like the tetanus vaccine. Hopefully this answers your question! Much love, Barbara
Guest guest
Yes Barbara it sure does. I wonder why I had never gotten any flu shots in my whole lifetime. My mom did and used to but they never gave me one. Oh well, I sure am going to go and get one this year. hugs; ginger Barbara Gardner wrote: Hi Ginger, I get a flu shot every year, and have for many years.
