Dennis, I'm so sorry that you're having to go through all of this, in

addition to Betty's illness. It sounds like they're handing you a load

of crap. I hope that it will all work out. Just concentrate on getting

her well right now. My thoughts and prayers will be with both of you.

Wish I could help.

Dennis,

Have you checked out the Hill-Burton Act? You might be eligible for hospital

care. When my husband had a massive coronary and we had NO insurance the Hill

Burton paid for all of his hospital expense.

[ ] Betty's in the hospital

On Monday, Betty was diagnosed with pneumonia and the doctor prescribed the

$7.50 ea pills. She took one Monday night and took one again on Tuesday

morning! They are supposed to be 24 hours apart and she did 12 or less. By

the time we got to her SSD lawyer, she could barely walk and couldn't drive

her chair straight. She collided with the desk, taking a chunk out of it,

and was answering questions wrong or not at all. She was acting strange, so

when we got home I put her to bed to sleep it off. She was still sick

yesterday, so she stayed home again and didn't sit the child she had

promised to. This morning, she woke me at 5:30, lying on the floor with her

face pressed into the corner of the top of the night stand, babbling

incoherently and not able to move. I tried to pick her up while calling for

our daughter, but her line was busy, so I was left to do it alone. From the

exertion and finally getting her face off the table, I couldn't stand. My

leg muscles turned to Jell-O. Also, my Sjogren's was bad and I had trouble

talking to the 911 operator. They got her strapped down and took her to the

hospital, thinking maybe a stroke, and after I was able to walk well enough,

I followed. By the time I got there, she was talking and doing much better.

Her blood sugar was 40 and heading down! Now, they can't get it regulated,

it's all over the place.

Now, I'm finding out that I don't qualify for the indigent program because

even though we're married and live together, she doesn't count because she's

not a contributor financially. Does that sound right? Also, they can't add

her to their indigent program because it's been cut off, even though they

are a State run hospital. There's no way we can afford the money they are

talking about. I'll have to vote for Kinky and hope he can solve this

problem. Sorry for the post, things just aren't going well at all, and I'm

depressed, tired, and my eyes are so dry they feel like sandpaper.

Sorry that Betty is in the hospital.

Sounds like a lot going on all at once. maybe a reaction to

the " millionaire " pills. hopefully not a stroke although symptoms

sound like that of a stroke. not sure why you didn't qualitfy for the

indigent program. it sounds like it is to supplement your existing

insurance or give insurance to uninsured. it's really a shame on many

levels if you don't qualify.

caring for the sick while you are sick yourself is difficult to say the

least. been there. however, hopefully the daughter will be able to

help out more.

Sending prayers for a speedy recovery for Betty, approval of the

indigent program or help with the medical expenses, and overall

improvement in health for you both.

peace and healing,

Dennis,

I'm so sorry to read about your latest news. How scary that must have been.

I've been feeling down lately but realize that other people are also

struggling, some much more. I wish there was something I could say, your

post almost brought me to tears, if I didn't have such dry eyes I would

still be crying. Best wishes are being sent your way for Betty and you,

make sure you take care of yourself.

May peace of mind and relief from pain and illness bless you both.

Every state has different laws so I can't give any advice regarding

the $ situation. Unfortunately some are forced to divorce as they age

or become disabled, that way your spouses income is not counted

against you when applying for assistance.

Here in Ohio you must meet the federal guidelines for poverty in order

to receive ANY assistance for medical bills.

Dennis,

My heart goes out to you and Betty. You both are in my thoughts and

prayers. In hard times such as what you are experiencing we must

remember the promise that " ...that in all things God works for the good

of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. "

Thanks to all of you that responded to my post and those who were thinking

of/praying for us.

I got her out of the hospital yesterday afternoon and she's doing ok. Now

the hurts from her fall are showing up, and it even put one tooth back in

place. ;)

She started having treatment for Pneumonia, but in the hospital they were

treating her for the flu. They also gave her another supply of Pneumonia

antibiotics, so now we have $150 worth of pneumonia pills and she might not

need them anyhow. Just another confusion.

Our daughter is supposed to go to the DHS Monday and talk face-to-face with

the woman that told her that we were qualified for assistance and now denies

that. We can wait for a while to see what happens. I talked to the finance

people at the hospital and it appears that they evaluate cases in-house, so

we may still be covered for at least some of the bill.

When trying to lift her off that table, I bruised my left forearm from elbow

to wrist, strained my leg and butt muscles and am having trouble getting

around, too. They are getting better but stil hurt really bad, so I'm going

to have to work it out. I'll be ok in a couple more days, and Betty will,

too.

Well, it looks like things are looking up, but you still sound like

you need to keep those prayers coming! Your positive attitude in

the face of so many problems heaped on you at once is truly an

inspiration! Tell Betty we all hope she's feeling MUCH better soon.
