Guest guest
Hi Angie I think regular Paracetamol is a good start (no more than 1gm x 4 times/day) and on top of that you can add in something a little stronger for overnight - if you have a good doc who is not frightened to prescribe some slow release Morphine or Oxycodone. We can't do much in life without sleep. It is the food of the Nervous System! I use slow release Tramadol on bad days. My feet are my biggest problem, pain-wise and at night when it gets really bad I go and sit on the Loo with my bare feet on the cold ceramic tiles (LOL - I'm not kidding!). It helps me to get back to sleep too. Good Luck with the Orthopod!! Deb > > Does anyone have any secrets to deal with pain. Guest guest
Angie, Have you tried using heat or cold on the painful areas. That might help. Also I personally have found that Icy Hot helps when I put it on areas that are painful and it can be used more than once a day. For me sometimes reading or doing other things to get my mind off the pain if helpful. At night when I don't feel like reading I'm here online writing to people or playing a fun game on my computer. These help me, but my pain might be as bad as yours is right now. Hope you get some help from the dr soon as I know that it is very difficult to deal with high pain levels as I've been there. I will be praying for you that God will give you strength, peace, and relief from this pain. God Bless, > > Does anyone have any secrets to deal with pain. Guest guest
My docs have been good about helping me deal with the pain. I have a refillable prescription for Ultram, which is not a help with severe pain, but does help if it's more moderate. I also have a prescripton for Percocet which I only take when it gets really bad. But my rheumatologist writes it for a large enough quantity that I can decide when I need it. Before I first saw the rheumatologist, my PCP did the same thing... he could tell how much pain I was in, and gave me a prescription for enough Percocet to get me through those first few awful weeks. Of course, at that point the pain was severe enough that the Percocet didn't touch it, but that wasn't their fault. > > Does anyone have any secrets to deal with pain. Guest guest
I find the same thing... If I keep busy, I can ignore it. I also think that as long as I'm moving I don't stiffen up as much. When I lie down to rest, every thing hurts more AND I have nothing to keep my mind off it. That's why I'm on this tupid board at 2 AM! :-( > > > > Does anyone have any secrets to deal with pain. Guest guest
Hi, I am new to this group, but I am finding the same thing as well. I wake up in pain. I get up without dwelling on the pain, and I push myself to proceed with my day. I move because it feels better. I also eat breakfast with my medication as quickly as I can to ensure that the meds do their job to keep me going. I have many restless nights too, I do not have any recommendations that work extremely well. The pain is going to happen no matter what, so it is important to learn to live with it. I have not been diagnosed with RA, but my symptoms are very similar and some of blood work results are indicative of RA. My physician is called my condition inflammatory arthritis at this point while he does more blood work and so forth. Cohen blondie10@... rcohen1@... [ ] Re: dealing with pain I find the same thing... Guest guest
Clare - You wrote... "fit as a fiddle in no time at all" regarding friends, and family expectations. I can laugh now, but at the time this following incident did deflate me a little. The other day dh worked out a 10-year plan. We share dreams of the little riverfront cottage, fishing, vege, and herb garden, pets, travel etcetera! Hubby announced, "I'm retiring in 10-years, you'll be right then...won't you?" I hesitated, and he followed up with "you'll be cured because you've got the group, and you're doing research?" Huh! I was speechless. As everyone, here, knows, we want the cure YESTERDAY, not in 10-years time. So now dh has given me the added pressure (on top of CFS/FMS etc) of finding the cure. THE CURE! That should put a smile on everyone's face. Thanks Clare, Carlene. >> Heidi's Fibro Support Groupyou all pass on such wonderful examples> YES EXAMPLES> of what works for you as an individual.> I beg people> Please remember this ugly disease can be very different for us all.
