Yes, I looked up " addiction " and can see some differences...but it is a fine line, I think. Again, my main problem is tolerance. I have to suffer for six days in order to have one pain free day. I do not want to ask for stronger drugs, because my RA will get worse...better save it for that time! It's just depressing. This is a horrible thing to ask, but have some of you considered taking drastic measures (done by a doctor, which is legal in OR ) if it gets too bad in the future? I apologize if I am out of line. But suffering on a daily basis can wear a person down, when little relief is in sight. Blessings, Pris
Guest guest
Research shows that when you take pain medication because it's needed for pain, you do not become addicted as you do when you take it for recreational use. a On Jun 5, 2006, at 10:27 PM, NELLIESTAR@... wrote: > > They all tell him that as long as he needs it he will not become > addicted. > > > > What does that mean? > I don't understand.... > Pris
Guest guest
People who take narcotics to control their chronic pain may become dependent on the medication, but that scenario is not equivalent to drug addiction. Guest guest
Hi there, actually what it means is that if your taking pain pills for pain then you won't get addicted but if you just take them for the buzz of it then you can get addicted. I am on some pills for pain and I only take them when I really need them. Guest guest
Hi Janet: I have been a bit out of the loop lately, but what sort of event is it that your husband wants you to go to? Is there anyway that you could get a wheelchair for that day? I think that renting a wheelchair would enable you to get out of the house, do the outing that your husband wants you to go with him on, and enjoy the day more knowing that you will not be hurting so badly once you get home. Just a thought. Kathe in CA > > I know to well about pain. He has tried to get me to use the motor chair at walmart and I refuse. I tell him the day I can not walk in the store is the day I stop going. and I know I am just being bull headed but I can't help it. and he likes to go fishing as I do but we always have to go places that it is a short walk from the car to the water. Thanks again Kathe for your input. some day I will except that fact that I am going to have to use a wheelchair. Janet IN IL
Guest guest
Janet, I was bullheaded about using the motorized carts in stores for many years. I totally understand how you feel. But one day, I really needed to shop and my ankles wouldn't co-operate and I broke down and used one. From that day on, I have no qualms about getting in one. It sure does make shopping more enjoyable. In my bullheaded days, it would take me the entire next day to recuperate from grocery shopping. I'd rather save my energy for fun things and use the tools available to help me do the shopping. a On Jun 6, 2006, at 7:04 PM, jan wrote: > Hi Kathe, Yes I was think about asking my DR. for a wheelchair. > the prob. is I am bull headed. Guest guest
I feel the same way although I do use them now, I made hubby use you too if he wanted me to, just so he could feel the change in perspective and self consciousness I feel. We ended up having races in the grocery store at 2AM. Then I made him stop. Now he humms " go speedracer, go speedracer " or mutters that trucker song where they " we got us a convoy " as I scoot along. All in all I needed to stop defining my self by what tools I use ... it didn't mean I was " that handicapped " it just meant I had a way to keep getting to do things I enjoyed. That said, I still bulk at many other things I just have this one down. in St. Louis He has tried to get me to use the motor chair at > walmart and I refuse. Guest guest
Janet, please don't be bull headed! you are missing so much. My Mom (she had diabetic neuropathy for about the last 20 years of her life) was past bull headed, she wanted to hold onto one of us instead of using a cane. Then, another struggle to get her to accept using a walker. Even then, she wouldn't use it at home until after she'd fallen a couple of times. Scared the you-know-what out of us. Finally, she wanted to see the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC. We made using a wheelchair a condition of going. About halfway through the trip, she actually admitted that it was so much easier, and she was able to do so much more! If only she'd accepted a chair sooner, we might have been able to take her to many more places. But that was the last trip we had. Think of all the things you might be able to do, and with less pain. Who cares, as long as you can keep getting out there? Better out in a wheelchair than sitting home alone! That's my motto, I use my cane and my handicapped placard, and I'll use whatever I need to - I'm not ready to quit living yet, no matter what it takes. > Yes I was think about asking my DR. for a wheelchair. > the prob. is I am bull headed.
