Guest guest
Hi I don’t know if anyone can help but we are having a really difficult time with Luke. Luke has had OCD since last year, but the worse thing about it is his intrusive thoughts. These have got worse over the last few weeks and we have just had a really bad weekend. The night times are the worse, for example, last night he didn’t go to sleep till 11ish and then woke at 2:30 and stayed awake with intermittent intrusive thoughts till 6ish. He gets really distressed in the night and last night was asking if I could take him to the doctors as he thinks there is something wrong with his brain. When the intrusive thoughts pop into his head, he screams and shouts and bangs his head – he hates the fact that he can’t control these thoughts. I know I am lucky that he is verbal and therefore can tell me what is wrong – but I am still left helpless as I can’t help him or get the thoughts to stop. Please, please if anyone has experienced intrusive thoughts and have found something to help – please can you post and let me know. We can’t go on like this. It is a vicious circle as he doesn’t get enough sleep which I am sure exacerbates his thoughts. He is relatively calm this morning and has only had a few so far, but I know as the day goes on and he gets more and more tired – they will get worse. I have emailed Doctor Goyal this morning to ask for his advice and am hoping that he will come back to me soon. I have recently run out of fish oils, P5P and b complex - does anyone think this could have resulted in more intrusive thoughts? I started Luke on circadin (time released melatonin) on Wednesday and although he had a reasonable night sleep the first night, he doesn’t seem to have worked since then. He has also been getting a tummy ache – which again I think might be a side effect from circadin. I am also wondering whether the circadin could be making his OCD worse as it has got worse since Friday and I started circadin on Wednesday? Has anyone experienced similar problems with this type of melatonin? (Previously he was on kirkmans melatonin which he was fine with). Hope someone has some ideas Best WishesNicola
Guest guest
Nothing but sympathy I'm afraid. I guess anything that's new that coincides with starting or stopping a treatment you'd look there first. I'm sure the tiredness makes it worse for him, being knackered feels like a form of madness doesn't it. Poor him and poor you. > > Hi > > > > I don’t know if anyone can help but we are having a really difficult time with Luke. Guest guest
If Luke is high functioning enough then CBT might be useful. My oldest had dreadful OCD around 13yrs old, CBT really helped, biomedically Inositol was good too. He still has slight OCD but understands better now and can control the worst of it. Youngest is very severe so CBT is a no go for him and Inositol doesn't touch the sides but I would still advise people try it judging by my eldest boy. Guest guest
Hi Thank you Steph! I have just discovered he has a white tongue and I am thinking it may be yeast – haven’t had any yeast issues for years – but that would make sense. Also off his food and BMS not good at all! Hoping for a better nights sleep tonight Thanks againNicola From: Autism-Biomedical-Europe [mailto:Autism-Biomedical-Europe ] On Behalf Of Sent: 21 May 2012 17:37To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Subject: Re: OCD - Intrusive Thoughts Nothing but sympathy I'm afraid. Guest guest
Hi Vicky Luke is more high functioning and we are seeing a pysch from CAMHS, but she reckons he is not high functioning enough for CBT. Will give inositol a go – a few people have suggested this. Also now think he may have a yeast issue Thanks Vicky Nicola From: Autism-Biomedical-Europe [mailto:Autism-Biomedical-Europe ] On Behalf Of MaddiganV@...Sent: 21 May 2012 20:14To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Subject: Re: OCD - Intrusive Thoughts If Luke is high functioning enough then CBT might be useful. My oldest had dreadful OCD around 13yrs old, CBT really helped, biomedically Inositol was good too.He still has slight OCD but understands better now and can control the worst of it.Youngest is very severe so CBT is a no go for him and Inositol doesn't touch the sides but I would still advise people try it judging by my eldest boy.Vicky RE: OCD - Intrusive Thoughts Hi I don’t know if anyone can help but we are having a really difficult time with Luke. Guest guest
That's what happened to my son, he was doing so well with the regular CP and they tested him to find he had low IQ, ended up with LD CP who was useless and after a couple of years re-tested and said he had no LD's and discharged him, pillar to post, we are trying to get him back with the original CP because it absolutely DID make a difference, I would strongly advise you find a way to keep Luke with CAMHS for CBT. Guest guest
Hi We are still seeing the pysch though didn’t see her for about 6 weeks as she was off ill. She said she will see Luke as long as we need – but I think I will try and push for CBT – I think sometimes she doesn’t realise how verbal he is and I think he probably would be okay with CBT ThanksNic From: Autism-Biomedical-Europe [mailto:Autism-Biomedical-Europe ] On Behalf Of MaddiganV@...Sent: 21 May 2012 20:33To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Subject: Re: OCD - Intrusive Thoughts That's what happened to my son, he was doing so well with the regular CP and they tested him to find he had low IQ, ended up with LD CP who was useless and after a couple of years re-tested and said he had no LD's and discharged him, pillar to post, we are trying to get him back with the original CP because it absolutely DID make a difference, I would strongly advise you find a way to keep Luke with CAMHS for CBT.Vicky RE: OCD - Intrusive Thoughts Hi I don’t know if anyone can help but we are having a really difficult time with Luke.
