Guest guest
Luke’s viral test shows very high CMV results – which DG reckons cause mental health problems / OCD – therefore thinks we should start anti-viral, which I do agree with (but not yet) – but very scared it will make the OCD worse. Guest guest
Yes we also getting those kind of behaviours and you are right Vicky it is not the stimming autistic like stuff, Sam is now fixated on doors being locked and the key removed, otherwise meltdown city! we have never had a ragey like reaction before, just stimming more in his own world. Also if he decides it is time for a walk, horseride, whatever, no amount of explaining will help, he just goes berserk, smashing and crashing about, I had weaned him off inositol and gaba, just left 5HTP, think I will go back to them now.Although he is having these headaches more regularly - I am sure due to the fall at respite and putting pelvis, spine out of alignment, osteopath for that.Kirsty, hang in there, xx To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe Sent: Tuesday, 22 May 2012, 8:08 Subject: Re: Old Timers/OCD That's about what I thought..............and it would drive me completely crazy, espcially if it involved noise also, I feel for all of you going through this Mx In here it's a compulsion to do things, follow rituals that have absolutley NO benefit, no pleasure but lots of anger and frustration, stimm is a pleasurable action to however pointless it might look to others.OCD also grows, singles become multiples on a daily basis to the point of disability, unable to move, catatonia, if left alone problem grows but the wrong intervention causes massive rage, similar to tourettes in that containment seems to cause saving up of behaviours to explosion or rage, that's how it looks in . Guest guest
We never had OCD before, it's just the last 6/8 months or so. We have to sit in precisely the right position on the sofa next to him, with the precise pressure he needs. He'll ask for the DCD to be changed 20 times in half an hour. Then an hour later he's fine, it's passed, he's playful and relaxed again. If we lived in the Dark Ages he'd have been dunked as a witch by now, it's as if he's temporarily possessed. It predates Dr G by some months. According to his paed it's " typical of autism " - she's quite a trailblazer eh? > > Is it just me but has anyone else noticed that the boards are just full of OCD problems this year? > Whether it's diet, viral, parasites, no matter what, everyone seems to be seeing huge increase in OCD. > We seem to be coming out the other end with , keep it quiet though, if he gets wind of me having some peace it'll all kick off again. > Vicky >
Guest guest
Tom's stimming relaxes him and zones him out - bang, bang, bang, slap, slap, slap - it's a rhythmn and it calms him. His OCD frustrates and frightens him, it brings him no pleasure at all. Guest guest
yeah, for me I've just changed the 'label'. What Tom does (obsessions) are neither strictly stims (stuff like lining up or repeated movements etc) nor OCD ritualistic obsessive behaviours like hand-washing and checking light switches. Tom's obsessions are things like letters and numbers and similar. Although they are neither exactly stims nor OCD I just think the overlap is obvious, particularly as we see the level of obsessiveness go up and down with various biomedical interventions, etc.
