Guest guest
Not for my son but I have for me, its good stuff Its hard when you get going because you always end up doing things at same time, usually would say wait until you finsiged AIT but sometimes it takes several weeks to see the benefit of that, though accupuncture in my experience is an immediate difference Mx Has anyone tried Accupuncture for ASD? My neighbour suggested taking my son to a Acupuncturist?( her Uncle) I have spoken to him and I have seen his website, he seems to be very experienced person in his area. He said he can do initial consultation free because of my neighbour? So I thought there is no harm taking my son there. But I just want to know anyone else tried it?At the moment we are doing Second week of AITWe have finished 10 dives of HBOT.I don't know why, but this year, I am getting lots of treatment and therapies cheaper or free. So is it worth trying to go and see? or shall I wait this AIT to finish and do HBOT again?RegardsJabi
Guest guest
I took my son for over a year to an experienced acupuncturist who had trained n Taiwan. He also used Chinese herbs. We agreed that Henry didn't seem to respond and treatment stopped in the end. If it were possible to get Henry to Juian , who I believe practises in Bath, I would try again, but otherwise not. My own acupuncturist - an excellent one, npw in Swanage - wouldn't treat Henry because he didn't treat children and said treating children was a specialist area. If you are thinking of trying acupuncture then I suggest finding out about the practitioner - what kind of training they have had and where. There are different types of acupuncture; I have liked practitioners who used 'Five element' traditional acupuncture and weho have trained in Leamington Spa at the school founded by the late JR Worsley. In recent years universities have offered degree courses in acupuncture. I know some practitioners who have taught on these have been less than happy with the courses, I think this may be principally becasue the UInoiversity tries to make into an academic subject something that is really more of a craft. And the development of sensitivity and hands on skill can't be learnt in a classroom. Margaret > > Has anyone tried Accupuncture for ASD? Guest guest
If your son will tolerate the needles definately give it a go. (Nbnon-invasive lasers are beginning to be used in some practices for those who caanot tolerate needles). My son found needles too much though we did manage to use the odd one plus pressure/heat so we had to give it up. But I do remember he had horrendous attack of reflux/coughing continously for 36 hours (awake all that time and greatly distressed). We took him - unwillingly to the acupuncturist - and it literally stopped dead after a couple of needles. A friend's aspergers son loves it. Reduces anxiety. I also use acupuncture as does one of my other sons and can vouch for it as a very effective form of treatment ACUPUNCTURIST Has anyone tried Accupuncture for ASD? Guest guest
I had acupuncture last year and it stopped my seasonal allergies almost entirely the same day. I was stunned, as I didn't think it would do anything and was only there to shut DH up :-) I do need to go again this year, for another few treatments, but I have tried so many things over the years, and this has been by far far the most effective. One of ds's therapists went for back pain (serious stuff, as she was hit by a drunk driver and in hospital for months) and again, in one treatment he had her fixed up. She sent a friend who had lifelong gut problems and again, in one app't he improved that enormously and her adult acne completely disappeared. I think this guy is magic. If I could get my son to accept the treatment, I would do it in a heartbeat. I would also seriously recommend it to moms for health problems. Generally pretty cheap, plus you get to lie still for 45 minutes, which is lovely. Anita > > > If your son will tolerate the needles definately give it a go. Guest guest
Sorry Vilma, I am in Canada! I don't think you could make the trip. But, I can tell you that in finding him, it gave me confidence that he's practiced for a long time, most of it in China (he doesn't speak English and needs a translator). I think you want to find someone who does ONLY acupuncture, not someone who is an ND lets say, and does acupuncture on teh side. Guest guest
I've had accupuncture both on the NHS and from a private chinese dr. I was told categorically that it wuld not hurt. It did, it was the most painful thing I have experienced. I never went back as I just could not cope with the pain. I had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and when the needles hit the right spot, it was as though I had been given an electric shock. Maybe the sort of accupuncture that doesn't use needles would be better! Just thought that I would add this in case anyone's child reacts like this too. > > > > > > > > > If your son will tolerate the needles definately give it a go. > > (Nbnon-invasive lasers are beginning to be used in some practices for those > who > > caanot tolerate needles). Guest guest
How much it hurts depends on the patient, the type of needles used, the needling technique and the points that are being used. I have experienced some points that give this awful electric shock effect. Others hardly hurt at all. Some practitioners put in the needle, then immediately remove it. Others leave the needle in for ages and twiddle it. Guest guest
Glad it's not just me.... I have had acupuncture from two different people and I screamed the last time, hideously painful. I had CVS with my last child which is a biopsy basically with no anaesthetic and I didn't flinch and the acupuncture hurt a whole lot more. I have chronic fatigue so perhaps those of us with other diagnoses should avoid it. I wouldn't try it on any of my boys and they tolerate quite a lot. > > > > > > > > > > > > If your son will tolerate the needles definately give it a go. > > > (Nbnon-invasive lasers are beginning to be used in some practices for those > > who > > > caanot tolerate needles). Guest guest
Yikes! I think part of it must be needle size and if they move them or not. The guy I use only uses the finest size needle, and once they are in, they don't move. I have a high pain tolerance, but am a squeamish wimp, so it is saying something that I enjoy these sessions and actually fall asleep with about a dozen needles in my face. It also helps I think that when he places them it is so fast and accurate I can hardly believe it.
