Hi ,

there are quite a few kids/adults that react badly to movicol (called Miralax in

the US), there is a Yahoo group you might like to join, i'm sure there are some

people there that can answer your question:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/miralax/?yguid=72605394

My son reacted badly to movicol, not immediately like yours but over time his

health and mood gradually deteriorated, so i didn't at first realise what the

cause was. What happened was the movicol was being converted into oxalate

crystals which built up in tissues of his body causing him pain, hence the

moodyness. Obviously this is not the same as what you are seeing, but i'm just

wondering if that rash is possibly oxalate crystals coming out through the skin,

my son had rashes on his skin when the situation was at its worst for him.

just a thought in case it helps,

Nikki

way up to just below the eyes. Lips not swollen. The rash clears a bit by night

fall with an antihistamine but comes back again the next day.

> The only thing I've changed is giving him Movicol Junior neutral (every

morning) for severe constipation. The ped assured me that the ingredients were

really harmless and that he needed it as he was to the point of crying when

passing a motion. After trying to no avail myself and seeing him in pain I gave

in.

> I don't know if it's under the same name in the UK but the ingredients are

macrogol, sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and potassium chloride.

> So I have pulled the movicol and I just wondered if anyone could tell me if

one of those ingredients could make him come out in a rash? Or do you think it's

something else I'm missing.

Nikki,

Thanks very much for posting....horrible stuff. Feel so bad but now it's back to

plan A. I had some very good advice but now I know I obviously didn't go high

enough with the oxy powder because it was the movicol that got past the mush to

looooads of well formed/good coloured stools. He must of been so backed up. Now

it's to find a good maintenence dose and extra c.

Karl is a happy chappy this morning and his cheeks are almost normal in colour.

Thanks again,

I know another kid that also has allergy to movicol in him triggers his asthma, I cannot help you with the reason why but the fact is that it seems to trigger allergies in some children.
