There isn't much information to go on in this particular case, but my guess

is that she didn't have RA in the first place. The fibromyalgia aspect is a

little trickier.

Studies have been done where fibromyalgia symptoms are induced in healthy

subjects in just a few days by interfering with their sleep cycles. Sleep

apnea does disrupt the cycles also, so treating the sleep apnea

appropriately can reduce fibromyalgia or fibromyalgia-like symptoms.

I've read about RA being treated using hyperbaric oxygen chambers:

http://www.lifestylestherapeutics.com/Arthritis.html

Sleep apnea as well as a lack of exercise causes low oxygen levels,

which can cause a host of other

problems, especially muscle weakness and fatigue. I can see where

correcting sleep apnea can

result in many muscular symptoms disappearing. As far as RA, I have

to agree with that it

may have been misdiagnosed in the first place. Misdiagnosing RA is

all to common.

I do know that my rheumy early on had me tested for sleep apnea, and gave a

sleeping pill to use as needed. She feels a good night rest is very important.

Hi :

I have also been tested and have sleep apnea, and am

on a CPAP, and take sleep meds, so I am getting better

sleep, but in no way am I cured! My RA and FM are

just as evident as they always were! I think she was

misdiagnosed.
