Guest guest
hi nancy! as far as i know, arnica is used for bruising... apply it to the skin right after an incident and it will stop a bruise from happening -- no swelling or discolouration or pain. but you have to get to it right away, or it might not do anything. i cant see it helping with a pinched nerve, however, pinching does cause trauma in surrounding tissues, so arnica might help to keep that at bay.... or it might not! i dont know what will help your foot or not, but i will tell you that no balm that i have ever rubbed into the skin has helped with my own muscle soreness or joint issues or pinched nerves, etc. my husband says that a535 or tiger balm or something of that nature does help his knees, but i think he is imagining it...lol. those types of rubs are all so strong smelling and seem to numb the skin... i think that they merely distract him from the issue by replacing one sensation with another (like how if you scratch something that is itchy, the itchiness goes away because it is replaced with the pain from the scratching). :*carolyn. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn! Too funny about your husband and the ointments! I was looking at them again tonight as I was in the pharmacy getting an rx and they all say either menthol or camphor oil as active ingredients and that they analgesics (pain killers for anyone else that needed to be sure of the definition, like I did). It doesn't say they will reduce inflammation or do anything else regarding healing and since the pain is coming from the inside and not the surface, I don't think they'll do me any good. Oh well, now I know. Thank for your help!
