Guest guest
, That is what I thought so until I get better answers I'm thinking it must be false readings. I know to qualify for O2 on Medicare it has to be, if I remember correctly 85. My sis was once at 86 having a terrible time but Medicare has their rules, regardless. Months ago I had lots of breathing tests and all was ok, and asthma meds did not help me at all. The problem I was chasing was a cough so bad I would stop breathing. With the kids did you ever have times when it wouldn't read at all and is the finger clip what they use? Betty [ ] Re: WAY of topic I know that with children with asthma, they put them on O2 if their pulse ox falls below 90% at rest. If admitted to the hopsital, they will not release them from the hospital until their pulse ox is staying at 95% or higher at rest on room air. The lowest I've seen one of my kids go before we got help for him was 85%, and that was very scary... he was blue. > > It seems that this group is most suscessful when it comes to finding information. Cataract a couple weeks ago I thought they would cancel the surgery. They taped the end to my earlobes and it worked...sporadically. The people doing that concluded that it was not really the level, just miss reading or some such as it would have numbers all over, like 99 then 40, then 75 and they said oxygen levels could not possibly could do that. I am to have the other dye done in a couple weeks and I don't want that messed up. I will ask the eye doctor. > > > > I have been seeing a pulmonary doc since about the first of the year but O2 level hasn't been discussed as in March it read a 99. Yesterday I saw him again and really let an opportunity go by when I should have asked. When he was finishing up I mentioned that they had not been able to get the meter(s), they tried different ones. I told him about the problem with surgery and that the conclusion had been made that I could not possibly fluctuate that much and that was not really the O2 level. He said that it was the level to which I replied how could that be as I thought oxygen was necessary. All in all (my fault) I did not ask him what ramifications that has. I have a call in to him now and hope I get it. Looks to me like that would be very significant or not at all. And if it is significant I think he would have volunteered the information. Anybody know anything about that subject or how to find it? Searching diabetes I can type in " goals " or " targets " or " norms " and get lots of hits but that isn't working in regard to O2. > > > > Thanks for any suggestions. > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Betty, Since you have said you have Raynaud's and diabetes, pulse oximetry would not necessarily yield reliable results (even at your earlobes) because of vasoconstriction issues. Not an MD I'll tell you where to go! Mayo Clinic in Rochester http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester s Hopkins Medicine http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org [ ] Re: WAY of topic > > > I know that with children with asthma, they put them on O2 if their > pulse ox falls below 90% at rest.
