Guest guest
Sam does not have it in his statement but his school give meds and supps per Dr Goyals letters Mx I know at least one child at my son's school has his special diet in their Statement. Does anyone have experience of getting this done please (also supplements. Would a letter from Dr G do (we aren't patients of his at the moment)? At the moment I am sending in lots of food myself - this week it cost me over £30. There are some quite ordinary foods that aren't in the school budget that are eaten on the GAPS/SCD eg mature blue cheese (Roquefort), mature sheep's cheese eg Manchego, bacon, honey. Also I am sending in Dalfour pure fruit jams and 2 litres of 24 hour yogurt and 13 individual portions of frozen bone broth every week.MargaretPS Henry's current school is helpful re diet and giving supplments but I am wondering whether other schools eg Prior's Court, Purbeck View, the Shires nr Stretton are as helpful? Guest guest
It is written in Harrys educational statement, although i am not sure how much emphasis school put on this, Harry always had packed lunch provided by myself and his own biscuits for snack time. I managed to get a GP to write a letter to authorize school to give, although the GP admitted she didnt know anything about nutritional supplements. x To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe From: Mum231ASD@...Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2012 06:37:42 -0400Subject: Re: Getting special diet and other biomed into you... Guest guest
Thanks everyone. Henry goes to a weekly boarding school so they have to provide meals for him but if he has to change school to termly or 52 week I won't be able to send food in every week so it may be important to get the diet etc written inot his statement. Prior's Court school's prospectus for example says (as far as I rememeber) they will do GFCF only if supported by written medical advice and that he must have it is in the child's Statement. It's an extra cost to the school so they will want it paid for by the LA.. Guest guest
Hi Margaret, Part 5 of his statement should set out non-educational needs and Part 6 sets out provision required to meet these needs as agreed between health/social services & other agencies (e.g. private GP/consultant) and LEA. If there is an obvious health risk eg anaphalytic shock from severe allergies or other health complications e.g. cerebal palsy, these should be in statement as there is a cost factor and also risk management where constant 1:1 attention is needed. If school refuses to comply voluntarily with special diet/therapies backed by doctors then you can ask LEA for amendments to statement. may be enough to remind them of 7:65 of SEN Code of Practice. 'Medical conditions may have a significant impact on a child's experiences and the way they function at school. The impact maybe direct in that the condition may affect cognitive abilities, behaviour or emotional state......' and 7.67 '...pastoral care arrangements.....school & family should liase in providing maximum support for the child'. It is wise to get it into statement now so there is no doubt about providing it whereever he goes. Surely at price Priors Court is charging they can manage but its really about their mind set!
