Go to A & E just to be safe x xxx

Hi All How do you determine the difference between a viral stomach bug and appendicitis? My 21yr old daughter is double over in agony, been to GP who said its a virus and gave her a prescription for painkillers, she is being sick and is in constant agony, in the middle of her stomach, rang A & E who said ring NHS direct, but then said they will just tell her to go to A & E anyhow, not sure what to do. x

Well i have literally just checked her and the pain after 3 hours non stop agony is beginning to subside, i have told her to drink some water (just to see if she can keep it down) as my Cousins child had appendicitis and couldnt keep anything down. Will see how things go over the next few hours and then decide. Thanks for helping x To: Autism-Biomedical-Europe From: Mum231ASD@...Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2012 06:01:50 -0400Subject: Re: Help needed

Hi My son has appendicitis a few years ago and we had real problems in getting doctors to listen – I knew something was wrong but they kept sending us away. After 2 trips to my GP and 3 trips to A & E they eventually admitted him. Luke had an ultra sound scan which couldn’t identify the appendicitis – but could pick up that there was something not right and then they did an emergency appendicitis and found a really inflamed and infected appendicitis and the doctors couldn’t believe he had played in the play room the morning before his op. Personally I would be on the safe side. Does your daughter usually have a high pain threshold? That was one of my problems with Luke – so when they examined he wasn’t “jumping off the bed” in agony. Does neurofen help with the pain? Is it very tender when you press her stomach? Luke used to have pain for a few hours which would then subside. The last day before they admitted him he was also being sick. Hope she is ok Nicola From: Autism-Biomedical-Europe [mailto:Autism-Biomedical-Europe ] On Behalf Of michelle laceySent: 15 June 2012 11:05To: autism-biomedical-europe Subject: RE: Help needed Well i have literally just checked her and the pain after 3 hours non stop agony is beginning to subside, i have told her to drink some water (just to see if she can keep it down) as my Cousins child had appendicitis and couldnt keep anything down. Hi Nicola Cripes what an awful time, my daughter is neurotypical thankfully, goodness knows how i would deal with it if it were Harry. It isnt tender to touch but hurts all the time but saying that has calmed down over the past 10 mins, she said it was excrutiating constant pain, hurt to walk or to lay still, she laid in the bath but that didnt help but now she seems to be getting comfortable, will keep an eye on her. Thanks xTo: Autism-Biomedical-Europe From: n.trotman@...Date: Fri, 15 Jun 2012 11:07:57 +0100Subject: RE: Help needed

, my one experience was a girl on school trip. Took her to a & e. They

took bloods which quickly confirmed infection then ultrasound confirmed

appendicitis.

She also had high temperature. Without these tests i don't know.

Best wishes, nah

I would just follow my instincts here and I guess I would take H to A & E. It

might be worth a 4 hour wait to try and rule out or confirm appendicitis. NHS

Direct IMHO is a waste of time and public money. I hope she gets better soon.

Just saw you later message - still keep a close eye on things. If it were Henry I

would be watching out for signs of shock, just in case the appendix had burst.

thsi sounds to me like perhaps ovarian cysts bursting? I have had it. The

first time when I was 21 and ended up in hospital for a week, without a

diagnosis. The did do an ultrasound after 6 days but by then the body has

cleaned up the mess inside. Second time had an ultrasound within 24 hours of

teh pain starting and was easily confirmed--apparently you see all the blood,

etc, from the bursting. The pain is something else. Literally dropped to my

knees and felt like I'd been stabbed. Vomiting, weakness.

It's worth asking for an ultrasound if they'll do that?? You actually don't

require any meds for it (at least I didn't).

What a worry.
