Regarding the step counting, I know the pedometer WW sells is very sensitive and does count steps as you're driving the car so I have to tell people to put it on pause at those times. I usually forget though, so hopefully they read the instructions! You might see if the fitbit manual says anything about that.

This is really interesting reading about your experiences with it, great review! I have WW members who have bought one or who are considering it so it is helpful to know more about what they're talking about when they bring it up in discusssions! :-)

re: fitbit

ive been wearing my fitbit for the past 3 days and so far i really like it :)im glad that they are including a clip that holds the fitbit now (instead of just spreading the forks apart and using that as a clip). it seems pretty secure. but i was able to attach another clip from my omron to the fitbit so it is even better.the fitbit seems to be alot more sensitive to my steps and im getting way higher counts with it than i got with my omron. for example, all ive done today is work 4 hrs in the deli which would be around 4-5K steps... but my fitbit says 9K !!! im wondering if it is measuring my riding in the car as steps..hmmm. i had it in my pants pocket so maybe i will try clipping it to my bra instead and see if it stops doing that!the website is very good, everything is on there!im not counting cals right now because it drives me bonkers, so all of the food section is kind of annoying to see, because it is empty. but maybe it is showing that because i put in a weight goal, so i will taking that out and see what happens.right now im just noting my food intake in the journal section. i might start using the food section and count calories at a later date, we'll see.im a bit confused about the calorie burn which seems high too, but it does try to take into account your base metabolism (so even when you are idle there is a cal burn). , so i suppose that is why. of course it all ties into the food that you log so it can graph things like cals in vs cals out.the sleep section is very interesting... im surprised at how little sleep i got last night -- it seemed longer than that. normally i have to sleep flat on my back because of my rib, and i see that i wake up less often when i do that (probably because sleeping on my side leads to pain). i wore the fitbit clipped to my tshirt sleeve on my left side (non-dominant, as per instructions). as a bonus, having it there also stopped me from rolling onto my side as often.the auto-sync is great... very fast.and i like that it calculates a stride length so i dont have to try to figure it out myself which can be frustrating.thats all for now, im sure i will think of other things to say about it as time goes by. so far, it is really cool :):*carolyn.

hi everyone, thankyou for all of your responses to my fitbit posts.

i have closely reviewed my stats from the last few days and see

that the fitbit is NOT counting steps while i am driving.

so that doesnt account for all of the steps i got on friday

(10,455).

it seemed pretty easy to get them!!! with my omron i had to walk

for an hour, workout and go to the deli (or do housework) in

order to get 10K ! LOL. with the fitbit, i worked in the deli

but then did office work all afternoon, then laid on the couch

for the evening. how on earth that came out to 10K is beyond me,

but so be it! all it means is that i have to adjust my goal to

be higher.

i like that i can pick certain time frames during the day,

allocate activities to them and see their stats... great for

things like deli work, walking and workouts. i do this on the

website after the fact so i have to remember start/stop/duration

times. but i think that i can just press the button on the

fitbit to record multiple events in a day... then name them on

the website later. i havent tried this yet, except for sleeping

which the website automatically names for us.

i really like that the fitbit counts stairs! i climb some

stairs both at work and at home, so i like seeing those

numbers...and it is easy to set a goal to climb a certain number

a day (but not too many so that my knees complain, of course)

:*carolyn.

Hey Carolyn! That's not fair that you can get to 10K when you wear your fitbit! I have to walk twice for about 45 minutes each to get to the number. Usually I get in around a mile or two miles from work, if I have to park far from the door. JenSubject: Re: re: fitbitTo: exercisevideos Date: Saturday, January 28, 2012, 1:20 PM

my job is crazy with lots of steps... today im stuck in the

office at home so not many steps right now and it is

mid-afternoon already. there is a blizzard going on here so no

outdoor walking today... i feel blah :/ perhaps some wii

tennis will pick me up and i seem to get a pretty good cal burn

No blizzard here for us. We got a little snow this morning. Now it's 31 but windy. The wind may get to 40 mph.... I don't like walking outside in the winter-time, I just walk on my treadmill. Jen

im glad that they are including a clip that holds the fitbit now (instead of just spreading the forks apart and using that as a clip). it seems pretty secure.

That's how I cracked my last one. I was as easy as I could be with it, but just the pulling it apart eventually cracked it. They replaced for me, but I use the clip all the time now. The only reason I stopped using the clip before is because IT broke. :(

the fitbit seems to be a lot more sensitive to my steps and im getting way higher counts with it than i got with my omron

I use to have an omron too and I definitely get more steps with my fitbit. I was thinking one of them wasn't right since they both come up with different numbers.

im wondering if it is measuring my riding in the car as steps..hmmm

I don't really think so because I wear mine when I do yoga and it doesn't even give me any steps at all. Not sure on yours though.

the sleep section is very interesting... im surprised at how little sleep i got last night -- it seemed longer than that.

I've used the sleep part a couple of times and the thing I don't like about that is its saying your awake whenever you move. That may or may not be the case. Sometimes we can just turn over to get a different position and not really be awake, you know? It said I was awake both times I used it for sleep like 18 times?

I'm glad you're liking it so far. I love mine. But I do have to say this.... I don't think their made real well. I've been through 3 of them though once was because I lost it. I've heard a lot of people talk about them breaking. Hopefully the longer they make them the more they will improve them. For now, I'll keep buying every one that breaks lol.

So far I have cracked my fitbit (knock on wood) or lost it (I did miss-place it though) and I've had the same one for almost 3 years. The only thing I don't like is that I want to re-set my start point for my weigh in but it won't let me. I asked the help desk but they couldn't do it either...frustrated! You have the newest fitbit then. I'd like to have be able to count stairs since I'm up and down ours all day long.

oh geeze!! i will need to be very careful. i have not been

spreading the forks of the fitbit at all, im always using the

belt clip and/or the omron clip that i put on it, so hopefully

the unit itself will not break. but i will be upset if my belt

clip breaks!

> the fitbit seems to be a lot more sensitive to my steps and im

> getting way higher counts with it than i got with my omron

oh good, im glad that you have found that too. for example,

yesterday it says i was sedentary for 14 hours (does not include

sleeping) and i still got 7200 steps! LOL!

i also did 10 flights of stairs!! LOLOL!

i know where the 10 flights came from.... i was on the rebounder

for about 5 mins for a warmup before tennis and i did walk up the

stairs a couple of times for this or that. an hour of wii

tennis gave me a bunch of steps, some of which i expected, but

other than light housework i did not move much.

so i just need to get used to these higher counts and adjust my

expectations, and step goal, accordingly. goodbye omron,

hello nice high step counts!! whoo-hoo! :)

> I don't really think so because I wear mine when I do yoga and it

> doesn't even give me any steps at all. Not sure on yours though.

thats good! i went through all of my graphs, pinpointed the

times i was driving and it showed only 116 steps during one of my

drives. i was still kind of peeved about that though.... until

i thought about it and realized that i had stopped and ran into

the bank that day on the way home! so, no, it is not counting

steps while i am driving...l yay!

ive been using the sleep function since ive gotten it and last

night it said i woke up 11 times in 7 hours. that seems like

alot but i do remember waking up around 4am and looking at the

clock, and it shows that. i feel rested, so alot of those

wakeups must have been quite minor. what makes me LOL is that

you can set it to be even more sensitive to your sleeping

movements. i dont think i will have to do use that setting. i

suppose that any time that you move your arm, it will register a

wakeup, so i think that i will clip it to the front of my sleep

shirt instead of to the sleeve and see if that makes a difference.

yes im really liking it, thankyou to you and jen for turning me

onto it. it is very cool, the website is very well done, the

price is great. i think that the gadget will get better and

better.... i was reading their forum where people were requesting

features and the company seemed to take those into account when

they made the new ultra version. ALOT of people on there are

requesting that a tether hole and strap be included, so i wouldnt

be surprised if they did that in the future.

ok i see what you mean! the only thing i can think of is to go

into each weight recording, for every day prior to jan 1st, and

change the weight to zero.

but i havent actually tried that, so i dont really know if that

speaking of the website not allowing us to change things.....

when i woke up this morning, i held the button to shut off the

sleep timer. but i must have held it down again because the

timer started back up and ran almost all day before i noticed.

because im having the most boring day ever (sitting down doing

office work), the fitbit thinks that i was asleep that whole time

and woke up 58 times! LOL

ive tried to delete that sleep session, or even to change it to

some category like 'desk work' but it wont let me... argh! oh

well, i will keep trying, maybe im missing something....
