Guest guest
That is interesting, when I discussed this my rheumatologist, she said that I am to take it everyday, even on my MTX day. I guess just different schools of thought. Guest guest
I have been taking MTX and Folic the same day for the past 2 years and have not notice any unusual or different. cassy <bigbear4x4@...> wrote: That is interesting, when I discussed this my rheumatologist, she said that I am to take it everyday, even on my MTX day. He has me take 10 mgs of Leucovorin (Folinic Acid) at the same time I take my MTX. I take the Leucovorin instead of taking Folic Acid. My doctor said that many rheumatologists have their patients wait 24 hours after taking MTX to take the Leucovorin, but he hasn't seen any difference in his patients. My rheumy also feels that the Leucovorin works better than regular Folic Acid in fighting the side effects of MTX. (I do also get 433mcg of Folic Acid daily in my multi-vitamin.) I'm doing fairly well right now, currently on 15mg of MTX, and I'm lucky to have no side effects from it. Good luck--and definitely let us know if not taking the Folic Acid on your MTX day helps. dordale
Guest guest
Hi Dordale, Thank you for your response...Taking MTX at the same time as Folic Acid is in debate by many rheumies... He happens to be one that does not want his patients to take both on the same day...He said when and if they prove that it doesn't interfere than he will change his mind....As I mentioned I have been taking both on the same day and yesterday was the first I heard not to take both on the same day...Starting tomorrow I will not be taking both at the same time..I will let you know if I feel a difference..It may take a few weeks before I can tell...I will certainly talk to my rheumy about Leucovorin..Hopefully it is covered under Medi Part D....Thank you for the input about Leucovorin....Hugs dordale8 <dordale8@...> wrote: > > Hi Everyone, Thought I would share this with you...Hopefully all of > you knew about this. Guest guest
Ronda, You could also consider switching to injections so that you'll bypass your GI tract. Anyone? > Another thing you could ask your rheumy about is Leucovorin (folinic acid). That's what my doctor has me take instead of folic acid. He says it works better on MTX side effects than folic acid. I take 10mg weekly at the same time I take my MTX. My doc says that a lot of doctors want their patients to wait 24 hours after taking the MTX to take Leucovorin, but he doesn't notice a difference, so just take it at the same time. I don't have any side effects from MTX (I've been on 15mg/week for a little over two years now. dordale
