Guest guest
I'm seeing this big time on another of my . It only seems to be a problem for users of Mail, MS explorer, etc. - not gmail, which I use. Symantec says there is nothing right now to protect against it, suggests that groups change their settings to not accept attachments. What ever you do, DON " T open any mail wth the subject, " new graphics site " ! Guest guest
Seems this one's pretty tricky. You don't even have to open an attachment to get infected - just opening the E-mail is enough. Guest guest
Hi . You must open the attachment to the E-Mail to become infected. The mail is titled Graphic File. Just delete it. I have gotten about 20 of them from another list I subscribe to. Do not open the attachment! 2497 " il faut d'abord durer " Hemingway Re: [ ] Virus / worm alert! > > > I'm seeing this big time on another of my . Guest guest
Hi, . Check this out: " The worm is taking a pretty novel approach, " said Dean , senior manager of Symantec Security Response. " It takes advantage of a JavaScript vulnerability, so the user doesn't even have to click on an attachment to get infected. " http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1009_22-6082934.html My computer hasn't been affected by this worm, but, apparently, some computers of a few members of our group have been. Guest guest
. Like Red Buttons used to intone: " Strange things are happening! " In my mail program, Outlook Express, one must click on the mail and open and display it before it can be deleted. Last night I started getting the " New Graphic Site " letters and they contain an attachment. The sender is " lesbianpics & persons " or something like that. I opened about 20 of them from my other list and deleted them this morning. My Norton Internet Security never showed anything and I updated definitions and scanned the whole computer twice to be sure. I do not know a lot about it but wouldn't it stand to reason that if someone could write a virus that could infect by the opening of an E-Mail why would they have to include an attachment? Thank you for all you do . 2497 " To know that we know what we know, and to know that we do not know what we do not know, that is true knowledge. Guest guest
Well, reason and malicious code writers don't necessarily mix, ! If they did include an attachment, I'm not sure what, if anything, might have been in it. Also, there are several variations of the worm floating around. Whatever the case, from the point of view of the worm author, it would be more attractive to have users get into trouble merely by opening an E-mail rather than having to open both the E-mail and an attachment. Both McAfee and Symantec and numerous IT articles stated that all that was necessary to do to be affected by the worm was to open the E- mail. But they did imply that you would only be vulnerable if you were reading it via certain versions of mail (because a security flaw involving the mail servers was exploited by the worm's creator - a JavaScript/Ajax issue).
