Guest guest
Hi Toni...as a fellow bariatric patient, I have experienced the ignorance of many medical professionals when it comes to bariatric surgery. They 'think' there is just one procedure, and do not want to differentiate between them, even though our needs can be quite different. The PCP I had at the time I had my surgery was insistent that I had a gastric bypass...when I brought in a description of my surgery (BPD/DS) she put it aside and told me she did not want it, and kept on referring to me as a gastric bypass patient. Well, I found another PCP This one was eager to learn about my surgery and all it entails. She wasn't insulted a bit when I explained the procedure I had...in fact she scanned all the info I brought in into my chart. She has been an angel. I hope you get well soon, Toni...this must be so very difficult. Love & hugs... Tess
Guest guest
Tess, This is very difficult. But on a more serious side...this cytokine storm is real. I am learning is common in those with auto-immune disease as well as happens to those that have had digestive altering weight loss surgery. Apparently the shortening of the gut has something to do with this. I am still researching and not finding a lot of info. The good think is that being on TNF-inhibitors actually slows or stops the " storm " . I still feel crappy and its taking all my energy to just breath!! I am so sore and tired from the coughing! I must have what feels like buckets of crap in my lungs...they are so sore...the more I cough to get the crap up the sorer I get! My PCP says I should feel better in two weeks. So we shall see. Since my rheummy is ignorring me...I guess I shall address my issues to my PCP and forget the rheummy until the new doc arrives and I can switch to him in July.
