Guest guest
If anyone has any experience or thoughts on my son's new symptoms please let me know. He is 19 and his autism is characterised by sensory problems and anxiety. On Monday night then again last night he had episodes that were characterised by being unable to control his body/intense painful sensation at back of head so that he wanted his head to snap off/totally alert and conscious througout. During the 1st episode he also tried to hurt himself and us (he didn't want to but couldn't control his body) and felt suicidal. During the 2nd episode - even though the symptoms were as severe - we were able to keep him in bed and cool him down with cold compress on forehead and back of head. He was in deep distress though. We called the ambulance on both ocassions and on the 2nd ocassion took him to A & E. Blood tests were normal - ie no infection/liver function issues etc. Have been refered to neurologist but there will be a 6 week wait. My thoughts are that it is sub clinnical epilepsy - with overexcitation of brainstem/cerebellum. Anyone any ideas on anything we can do in short term that is better than A and E's suggestion that we take him to them during the episode. Obviously doing a lot of deep pressure massage etc to calm nervous system and looking at what we can do re constipation (nb 1st attack came on like a light switch after he had a BM. He has constipation - probably as result of proprioceptive gut motility issues) Thanks
