Sorry to hear that Layla :( My advice would be to never ever push anything a child is not tolerating just because 'it can be very beneficial'. It very obviously isn't in your child's case, at least not at the moment. (our son could only tolerate fish oils and cod liver oil for a short period of time, then all of those, including ANY other oils just made him worse, so we stopped even trying. No point). My advice would be to stop all oils, and maybe revisit again in 6 months or a year or later. If you do other biomed in the meantime his body might become more tolerant of fish oils… MIGHT. Best of luck with it all. Hello again, everyone.

I hope you're all hanging in there.

I introduced myself a few weeks ago. My three-year-old son, Loic, is on the GFCF (and soy and egg-free) diet.

(I'm glad to have found this group. But, reading your posts I see I have a lot to learn still!)

Anyways, we're now on our third fish oil. We tried two different cod liver oils and one fish oil and they've all made Loic incredibly hyper. It was so bad I thought the speech therapist was going to ask us to never come back again!

Here are the ones we have tried in the following order:

Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil with Vitamin D (lemony taste, contains soy)

Kirkman's Cod Liver Oil (no flavouring, no soy)

Coromega Fish Oil (orangey taste, but contains egg yolk which my son is allergic to)

I've been told it's important to find a fish oil your child can tolerate because it can be very beneficial, but he's just driving us insane!!!

Another info, I've made an appointment to see Dr. Goyal in September. I've also just received the results of the Organic Acid Test and it shows mild yeast, so we're putting Loic on an anti-fungal med (don't know which yet).

Sometimes a child needs omega 6s (gla oils) and then omega 3s can be tolerated. Looks as if all of these tried oils were epa and dha?? If a child has KPU, pyroluria, definately will not be able to assimilate omega 3s off the bat. http://www.primalbody-primalmind.com/?p=398Also have you tried acetyl carnitine, taurine or lipase enzymes with the oils for better assimilation? Look into supplements that aide assimilation, that might help if KPU is not the issue.

Thanks, Natasa. I'll just stop fish oils for now.

We have had exactly this experience - tried several different ones which were

allegedly hypoallergenic etc but they all sent our son bonkers so as your

previous respondent suggested we have now given up on those for now. No idea if

it's his the oils are processed, or the amines in them or what, but for some

kids they are a bad thing. I found quite a few warnings from other parents on

the failsafe website about this.

Hope things get better once it is all cleared out of his system.
