Guest guest
<sigh> the professional run-around when all you want is to help your daughter. Will the health care community EVER learn? I'm Debi, mom to 3 girls, 8,6,3. My 6 yr old has ASD. Welcome, I too share in your run-around to get help, as does most of us here. I hope we can help each other! Guest guest
i am sure we can help each other. there is strenght in numbers. i am almost at the point where i want to get some degree not sure in what were i can be the voice that the doctors will not have. where parents can come ask questions and get answers and where children can get real help and parents can get all the information they need with out having to lose more sleep looking here there and everywhere and getting lost in emotion. i need a plan. this lack of information must be stopped. ~ christine~ --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
I've gone from sped degree to psychology and now I've finally (knock on wood <g>) decided on nurse practitioner. I'm 30 hrs from my BS with a psychology/sped emphasis then will go on to nursing school. Once autism has touched me I can't do anything but work with the autism community. I enjoy people with autism more than the NTs of the world, lol. Guest guest
Me too! I knew what I wanted to do from the first time I ever heard of autism when I was 11 and read about it in a Babysitter's Club book. When I told my mom I was going to grow up and work with kids with autism, she told me I'd never find a job just doing that because it was so rare! LOL...here I am many years later... Amnesty I enjoy people with autism more than the NTs of the world, lol. > > Debi >

Guest guest
I'm not really sure. I feel more at ease around people with autism. I find people with autism fascinating and very interesting. I feel that people with autism are more honest and real in their behaviors. I also think I'm a touch on spectrum and can relate to many behaviors and feelings I anticipate people with autism having. Like I remember when I was a kid being terrified when a poodle was barking outside my car when I was like 3 yrs old, I remember ALWAYS thinking dogs were nasty because of their horrific odor that no one else seemed to notice, along with that wet, stinky slobber that used to make me nuts. I remember being afraid to cross bridges because I thought we would fall off the side, afraid of going in upper story buildings because I always thought I felt the floors falling through, always thought stair cases would fall, hated going on trips because I didn't know what to expect, hated looking people in the face, etc. I clearly remember all those things. I can remember never getting it in social situations and learning to laugh when everyone else did 'cause I never seemed to get jokes. When I think of my childhood I most clearly recall intense anxiety about everything. I used to think it was because of a bad homelife, but now I wonder if it was just because I was on spectrum. I think mostly, though, I see my daughter a little in everyone with autism, and that makes me feel a special place and want to love them unconditionally the way I hope my daughter will be loved by others. Guest guest
That's so funny. A friend at church read some Torey Hayden books when she was in middle school, she said from then on she always wanted to work with kids with autism but never did. Now she's a shadow for Allie 1 day of each month at church, has been to an IEP meeting to pitch Allie's abilities, and is a natural at it. Guest guest
Hi and welcome aboard Its all so confusing though, as there is nobody supporting us, except other yahoo forums, which are great too, but it's so hard to know whether i am doing the right thing or getting caught up in irrelevants. or worse, doing quite the wrong thing. >>Is there a reason you are not using a practitioner? Where abouts are you in the UK? i am thinking about getting an OAT done for more info. has anyone done this in the UK? i think i can do it through biolab - has anyone tried it? i dont understand why there seems to only be the one lab in the US that does it. i'm also on the LOD list and the listowner, Owens of the autism research project will then take the time to evaluate and go through the results with you for free, which i think is amazing. >> in great. Great Plains does the original OAT test, you can order it from UK, or used to able to as I did one when I started with Sam also parasites. i know he and his brother (so probably me and his dad, too?) have worms, i even scooped some into the sample for the doctors but they somehow missed testing for parasites which was the whole point - v frustrating as it took ages to get him to come round to giving a sample. they have had some homeopathic cina - but not sure if they are completely gone,. i see there was a recent thread on DE and am thinking of trying some. i wonder if anyone could point me to a reliable source. i was going to try naturalrussia otherwise. >>>Genova or Metametrix for CDS, Comprehensive Digestive Analysis with parasiteolgy is the test, GP tests won't tell you too much even if they are positive. For DE I use Diatom, here is link to human grade http://diatomx.co.uk/Diatom-for-Humans HTH Mandi x
