Blessings to everyone:

I've been trying to get over a cold for almost 2

weeks now. I think, however, that everytime I take my

methotrexate/sulfasalazine dose, I seem to get worse!

Is this all in my mind or what? Should I completely

get off of these meds until I'm well again....and if

so, do I have to ween myself off of them?

Thanks in advance for your help....

Greetings ! No its not all in your head. Methotrexate lowers your

immune system... SO when you start feeling better and do take it the bug or

whatever you have just takes over again. I what you are going thru. it took me

a

month to get over a stinking cold, not realizing it was the meds prolonging it.

Personally i stopped taking the Mtx till i felt 100%... but that brought on

a big flare... i dont know hon maybe call your doc, or someone else will

know. Feel better soon! HUGS

The reason this is happening to you is because the DMARDs lower the immune

system so you do not have the appropriate immune response. You are more

suseptible to infections and viruses while taking these drugs.

You should talk to your rheumatologist, but it is common for a person to

stop taking the drugs if they become sick in any way.
