....God bless your doc for prescribing pain meds. Mine wont for some

That's just awful :( Thank God my rh doesn't have a problem with pain

meds. I was scared to ask him but he gives me Vicodin. I'm like Jane,

altho my pain is worse from the upper back on up. I'll take two

Vicodins, a Skelaxin and an NSAID and it'll barely cut it. But hey, it's

something :)

Speaking of which...Does anyone have any advice for NSAID stomach pain?

Bufferin was killing me so the rh prescribed Relafin, which so far

doesn't seem much better.

Thx,

I take Relafin also...i've had bad stomach problems and I make sure I take

Relafin with FOOD! I've tried not taking Relafin and after a couple of days, my

joints let me know about it! So I guess an upset stomach is better than the

alternative for me. '

Hi :

I take Mobic as my NSAID, and have been taking it for

about two years now, after having been other

anti-inflammatories. You could maybe ask your doctor

about it.

My doc put me on Nexium to counteract the gastric problems I was

having from NSAIDs. At first I took it every day, now I only take

it 3 times per week and that seems to work fine.

I love Nexium. I use it too when I have to take Lodine XL. I think

everyone should take something to protect the stomach when on

NSAIDS. But then again I am not a doc either. LOL

The only thing my dc warned me about with Nexium (and oher drugs

like it) is that acertain amount of acid in your digestive track is

important to kill off bad bacteria, and Nexium can lower the acid to

an unsafe level. She said there is a higher rate of pneumonia in

people who take the maximum dose of Nexium long term. She said the

best way to take it was to take it daily until the prblem resolved,

and then back it down to the lowest number of days per week you

could take it without a return of symptoms.

But without it, I couldn't use any NSAID long term... they all eat

my stomach if I take more tha afew doses in a row. Her plan is to

get my RA cntrolling meds to a level that Ionly need to takean NSAID

on an as-neede basis, but we're not there yet. I just tride to back

down from 200 mg of Diclofenac a day to one 75 mg dose of the XR

formula. Immediately I started to have swelling and pain in my

finger joints, and a woorsening of the dymptoms in my feet. But

then I haven't gotten up to my full dose of Mtx yet either.
